Oval Office 11:35 A.M. EDTTHE PRESIDENT: Well, thank you very much. We’re with the Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, who’s done a spectacular job in Florida. He enjoys very high popularity, and that’s for a reason. The reason is he’s doing a good job.And he came up. We talked about many things, including he’s going to be opening up large portions and, ultimately, pretty quickly, because he’s got great numbers — all of Florida. And I thought Ron would maybe — we’re together, we’re in the White House. This was a — sort of, a little bit of an...

ALBANY - Mayor Kathy Sheehan is asking people to reconsider plans to attend a rally Friday to protest the state’s coronavirus quarantine orders. She's also warning city residents to avoid the area around the state Capitol. Conservative groups are planning the second rally in as many weeks for Friday afternoon in the city, hoping to pressure Gov. Andrew Cuomo to lighten the restrictions placed on many commercial and social activities. Cuomo announced earlier this week that a drop in coronavirus cases should allow some upstate businesses to reopen by mid-May. Some city residents were caught off-guard by last week’s protest....

It is welcome news that Florida is now set to become the sixth state to require both parental consent and notice before minor girls can get an abortion. A bill mandating this has passed both houses of the state Legislature, and Gov. Ron DeSantis has promised to sign it. Ensuring that a child’s parents are involved before any medical or surgical procedure is performed on a minor patient makes sense in any state. In Florida, though, it makes extra sense. Florida is home to a huge immigrant population, many of them undocumented and vulnerable, and special care should be taken...

Original defense counsel for Michael Flynn spurned congressional immunity overtures following Flynn's guilty plea. Flynn's original defense attorney also allegedly said he would be unlikely to pursue congressional testimony by Flynn without the approval of Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Multiple congressional committees approached Michael Flynn’s original defense counsel to raise the prospect of immunity in exchange for Flynn’s congressional testimony but were spurned, multiple sources familiar with the interactions told The Federalist. After Flynn pleaded guilty to making false statements to federal investigators, representatives of multiple congressional committees with oversight responsibility for national security matters asked Flynn’s lawyers if Flynn...

A 48-year-old woman who authorities called the leader of a protest Tuesday in Trenton demanding Gov. Phil Murphy reopen the state despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic was issued a summons accusing her of violating the state’s lockdown orders, the State Police said. Stephanie Hazelton, of Medford, was charged with violating Executive Order No. 104, which in part bans large gatherings in the state during the crisis. No other protesters were charged and Hazleton was released after being given the summons, according to Trooper Alejandro Goez, a State Police spokesman. “The troopers showed a tremendous amount of restraint,” Col. Pat Callahan,...

On Monday's Amanpour & Co. on PBS and CNN International, the program showed a pre-recorded interview between NPR weekend anchor Michel Martin and former Republican Senator Bill Frist in which Martin tried to suggest hypocrisy on the part of pro-life Republicans who have pushed to reopen some states during the pandemic. Frist bristled at her attempt to link the pandemic to abortion and scolded her for doing so: "You can go to abortion and talk about -- make it political -- I'm not going to go there -- you can try to force it there." As the two discussed the...

A number of recent developments help illustrate how quickly a false Messianic figure could emerge on the earth, in both religious and secular circles. Prepare to read some shocking quotes. But first, let me set the stage. The events surrounding the coronavirus have demonstrated how quickly the status quo can be overturned, how dramatically the fortunes of nations can shift, and how a call for one-world cooperation can arise. And what if there was a worldwide economic collapse, accompanied by plague and famine? Is it too farfetched to imagine that a powerful, problem solving leader could gain an international following?...

Government unions should not be shifting the costs of the shutdowns to the laid-off employees of private businesses. Yet that is the approach sought by Democratic governors of large states as they demand massive bailouts of their government workers who have sat idly by. Public schools are closed throughout the country. Although some teachers are still teaching via the internet, administrators and higher-ups have enjoyed an extended vacation at home. Those higher-ups should not be receiving full paychecks, at the public’s expense, which are being denied to waitresses, manicurists, and hairstylists. The sooner everyone is allowed to get back to...

Stop twisting yourselves into pretzels of befuddlement and shocked-shocked confusion about the mayor’s actions. If it walks like a worse-than-useless bigot and talks like a worse-than-useless bigot and tweets like a worse-than-useless bigot, I’ve got news for you: It’s not the effective and tolerant mayor of a great city. De Blasio might’ve been capitalizing on the behavior of a few Hasidic Jews when he railed against “the Jewish community” at large, but anti-Semitism doesn’t differentiate between those in long beards and black hats and Jews who are clean shaven and bare headed. In singling out the Jews for spreading the...

DETROIT -- A Michigan doctor who operated medical spa facilities across the U.S. was charged with one count each of health care fraud and conspiracy to commit health care fraud for an alleged multi-million dollar scam. The fraud charge has a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, unless the violation results in serious bodily injury to a patient. Then the maximum sentence is 20 years. If the violation results in death, a life sentence can be imposed. The doctor is also accused of ordering employees known to have tested positive for COVID-19 to continue working with patients at the...

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Wednesday joined a growing chorus of Democrats calling on Senate Republicans to pause their efforts to confirm federal judges when the Senate returns on May 4 amid the coronavirus pandemic, saying the GOP seems less interested in passing further measures to combat the virus than they are in putting more of President Trump's nominees on the federal bench. "The GDP just had its biggest drop since the Great Recession, the United States has surpassed one million confirmed positive cases of COVID-19, and we still don’t have adequate testing," Schumer said in a statement....

On April 24, 2020, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued Orders to Show Cause (Show Cause Orders) against four companies that provide domestic and international telecommunications services pursuant to FCC authorizations. Each of those companies is ultimately owned and controlled by the government of the People’s Republic of China (Chinese government). This unusual proactive review by the FCC marks another lever the Trump administration can bring to bear relative to Chinese (particularly state-owned enterprises) influence and access in U.S. industry. It follows the Trump administration’s increased scrutiny in the national security space of Chinese involvement in telecommunications, semiconductor, sensitive data,...

Demonstrators against Michigan's coronavirus stay-at-home order were forcibly removed from inside Michigan's legislative building in Lansing on Wednesday, with one of the protesters taken away on a stretcher. A video of the incident was shared on Twitter by Michigan's MIRS News. In the clip, one of the protesters with the group Michigan United for Liberty can be seen screaming as uniformed security guards attempt to remove her from the House of Representatives gallery. "You're not allowed to touch her," one of the protesters yells as her fellow demonstrator can be seen kicking her legs from the floor. Another protester can...

Amid the COVID-19 battle raging non-stop in our nation, it is easy to overlook an equally important battle—the 2020 election in November. Mr. Trump has already been put behind the 8-ball of this pandemic; no matter what actions he takes, there will be myriad criticism that his actions have irrevocably harmed our nation and he is, therefore, unfit for another term. Two of my conservative male friends conspicuously condemn Donald J. Trump for being unpresidential. Especially during these COVID-19 troubled times. Yes, President Donald J. Trump is decidedly churlish, hyperbolic, frequently less refined than Mitt Romney, disrespectful to his...
