Prayers up for all the families suffering from the impact of this virus. And we're still praying that the spread starts fading with the warmer Spring weather and that an effective treatment and vaccine are developed before the next flu season starts. And we pray that our people are allowed to go back to work very soon and that our economy comes roaring back. Meanwhile, we may be hurt and slowed down somewhat, but we have faith in the long-run that "what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger." God willing, America will survive and we will survive and we...

Americans must reject a dehumanizing "new normal" in the wake of the Chinese Virus.Anyone who has ever acted on stage knows the difference between a full audience and a light audience. Even when lights blind the eyes to their presence, even when they are silent, they are there. It’s like the difference between driving a box truck full of furniture or one that is empty and almost weightless. Theater, sports, movies, and church are all driven primarily by an ancient desire to be in each other’s proximity. President Trump made some waves last week when he rejected the idea that...

but honestly, I feel like I've had colds and flus worse than this. I've never been totally out for the whole day in bed. I've been up, able to talk with people. So, for me, luckily, fortunately for me, it's been quite mild." He was interviewed on CBS This Morning by a concerned Gayle King. Apparently he had mild symptoms and quarantined with his husband. Should be ready to get back to reporting and bashing Trump soon.

On Last Week Tonight, John Oliver unpacked another “brutal week” of coronavirus dominating the news but saw a silver lining in Dame Judi Dench’s dance abilities on TikTok. That said, Oliver dove deep into the misinformation being spread about coronavirus. This includes claims that microwaving mail can kill the virus and that breast milk and garlic can help prevent it. The wide spread of misinformation has led to the most recent protest against stay at home orders. Oliver points out that many people — including these protesters — think that coronavirus is less deadly than the flu. Specifically, 40% of...

Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not using it in a fruit salad. Sometimes, when I look at my children, I say to myself, ‘Lillian, you should have remained a virgin..' - Lillian Carter (mother of Jimmy Carter) <><> I had a rose named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalogue: - 'No good in a bed, but fine against a wall.' - Eleanor Roosevelt <><> Last week, I stated this woman was the ugliest woman I had ever seen. I have since been...

Why no police raids? A Syracuse mosque is still open for daily prayers amid the Coronavirus shutdown as Christians are threatened and fined for attending drive-in services. New York is the country’s Coronavirus epicenter with more than 18,000 deaths, however this mosque is still open for prayers. This mosque located on the north side was once the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, but it closed down due to lack of parishioners — now it is considered a victory mosque. Syracuse.com reported: [Irfan Elahi] used his skills to create a prayer room covered in plastic with special ventilation that allows daily prayers...

India is all set to use the most-wanted drug around the world at present backed by United States President Donald Trump, Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), for a first-of-its-kind mass experiment on Asia’s largest slum in the national financial capital – Mumbai’s Dharavi. After multiple cases of coronavirus were reported from Dharavi, the area was sealed and listed as a containment zone. Now, officials of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are trying to identify a target group who will receive the anti-malarial drug as an experimental treatment for the viral infection. According to a Bloomberg report, the officials are currently consulting medical experts...

Thousands of people gathered at the Washington state Capitol to protest Gov. Jay Inslee’s stay-at-home order designed to combat the spread of the coronavirus. In Olympia on Sunday, some protesters wore masks and some waved American flags. The Washington State Patrol said an estimated 2,500 people showed up at the protest. No arrests were made.

Scientists analyzing data gathered by Kepler, which NASA retired in November 2018, just found a hidden gem: an Earth-size world that may be capable of supporting life as we know it. The exoplanet, Kepler-1649c, circles a red dwarf star that lies 300 light-years from Earth, a new study reports. Kepler-1649c completes one orbit every 19.5 Earth days, putting the alien planet in its host star's "habitable zone," the just-right range of distances where liquid water could exist on a world's surface. (Because red dwarfs are so dim, their habitable zones lie quite close.) "This intriguing, distant world gives us even...

Elizabeth Bartholet, Wasserstein public interest professor of law and faculty director of the Law School’s Child Advocacy Program, sees risks for children—and society—in homeschooling, and recommends a presumptive ban on the practice. Homeschooling, she says, not only violates children’s right to a “meaningful education” and their right to be protected from potential child abuse, but may keep them from contributing positively to a democratic society. In a paper published recently in the Arizona Law Review, she notes that parents choose homeschooling for an array of reasons. Some find local schools lacking or want to protect their child from bullying. Others...

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Novartis have reached an agreement to allow the Swiss pharmaceutical company to proceed with a clinical trial of hydroxychloroquine for patients with COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. Novartis announced on Monday that it will begin enrollment for phase III of the clinical trial within the next few weeks and that the study will be conducted in more than a dozen U.S. labs. The trial is set to evaluate the anti-malaria drug, which President Trump has repeatedly touted as a potential "game changer" in the fight against COVID-19. Health officials...

In this post, I identified five great baseball lineups from the period before 1961. Now, I want to recognize some of the great lineups from 1961 until the present. In 1972, the American League brought the “designated hitter” into being. The National League still hasn’t, a good decision in my view. With the designated hitter, American League lineups naturally became more productive, as a rule, than their National League counterparts. Thus, AL teams dominate the top of the charts in terms of runs scored. In identifying great lineups, I have tried to allow for this difference. I’ll start with a...

Photos taken Sunday in Denver showed two people dressed in N95 masks and scrubs standing defiant against those protesting Colorado’s stay-at-home orders. The Denver protesters were calling for state lockdown orders to be lifted while the apparent healthcare workers were counter-protesting in the street. There is a video of the standoff shows a protester in her car yelling at one healthcare worker to “go to China if you want communism.” “You can go to work why can’t I go to work?” the woman asks, referring to the closure of non-essential businesses in the state. The workers didn’t appear to respond....

Harvard University, which has a $40 billion private endowment, just received $9 million in Wuhan coronavirus "relief" funding. From the Harvard Crimson: Harvard University will receive nearly $9 million in aid from the federal government through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, the Department of Education announced last week. The CARES Act — the largest economic stimulus package in American history — was signed into law on March 27. It allocates nearly $14 billion to support higher education institutions during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.Of the $8,655,748 Harvard is slated to receive, the government has mandated that at least half —...

Ruth Marcus and others at the Washington Post who led the effort to destroy Brett Kavanaugh's life based on unsubstantiated allegations know that what they did was evil. The Washington Post has a problem. The newspaper led the massive effort against the nomination of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh by publishing and relentlessly hyping a completely unsubstantiated allegation of sexual assault against him. Now, the paper is leading Democrats’ efforts to bury a similar, if stronger, allegation of sexual assault against Joe Biden. To accomplish this dramatic turnabout, the paper is collectively trying to rewrite history, pretending the allegation against...

A new survey shows that Americans want gathering in homes and churches to be allowed right away when the lockdown ends.Asked to prioritize the reopening of various activities and whether it should happen right away, half of the respondents said that allowing people to gather in small groups at someone’s home should happen right away, and 35 percent said churches and other religious gatherings, according to a Scott Rasmussen survey.Thirty-five percent also said that reopening retail stores is a top priority for them and 31 percent said the same about schools.Only 21 percent felt that reopening bars and restaurants should...

Pro-democracy advocates in Hong Kong plan a new round of mass protests against the government this July. The latest conflagration between pan-democrats and Hong Kong and Chinese bureaucrats comes following conflicting statements this weekend over the role of Beijing’s liaison office and Article 22 of the Hong Kong-China Basic Law agreement. The article itself is straightforward. No department of the Central People’s Government and no province, autonomous region, or municipality directly under the Central Government may interfere in the affairs which the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region administers on its own in accordance with this Law.If there is a need...

The one and only accomplishment I can list for last week technically belongs in this week’s column as I didn’t complete the task until yesterday. But since I started working on it a week ago Sunday I’m counting it as last week’s achievement. What sort of onerous task took a whole week you ask? Fixing my mobile phone after a system “update” that’s what. In addition to all the normally annoying things a Samsung update does – turns your notification offs, mutes the ringer, etc., etc. – this time it reset the alarm times on my clock as well. It’s...

It's ironic at a time when 56 million children in the U.S. are being homeschooled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic that Harvard Magazine would publish an article calling for a ban on homeschooling. The article by Erin O'Donnell, headlined "The Risks of Homeschooling," sets up one straw man after another to make the case that the government must step in to protect children from their own parents—who are presumed guilty and ill-qualified to care for their own children. Elizabeth Bartholet, faculty director of Harvard Law School’s Child Advocacy Program, told the magazine that homeschooling deprives children of their...
