The authors of a new study suggest that science and technology professors should “equalize average grades across classes” in order to draw more women into those fields of study. Inside Higher Ed reports that the researchers, examining administrative and course data from the University of Kentucky’s archives from 2012, found that students both spent more time on STEM courses every week—about an hour—and that they also got lower grades in STEM classes than in others.

Sen. Lindsey Graham cautioned President Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani against making explosive claims if he can’t provide the evidence to prove them. Giuliani claimed earlier this week he has proof the Trump impeachment investigation was a “cover-up” by Democrats. "I don't know what Rudy's got, but I'm going to send him a letter. If you're going to go on national television and tell the country that you've found evidence of a cover-up, then I hope you know what you're talking about,” Graham told reporters on Wednesday. "I like Rudy a lot, but we're going to have to watch what...

The U.S. Senate, hoping to meet a looming deadline, on Thursday advanced legislation to fund an array of domestic programs through Sept. 30 in a bid to prevent government agency shutdowns when existing funds expire at the end of this week. The Senate voted 71-21 to limit debate on the bill, which is one of two massive fiscal 2020 spending measures it hopes to pass either Thursday or Friday. Rushing to begin a Christmas recess, the Senate is expected to vote later on Thursday to pass the measure, which would appropriate new money for an array of domestic programs as...

The U.S. government on Thursday began sending Mexican deportees to the interior of Mexico starting with a flight to the city of Guadalajara, U.S. and Mexican officials said, in the latest step by both nations to restrict migration flows. The officials declined to be identified because they were not authorized to talk to the media. Central American migrants and asylum-seekers have comprised a large percentage of deportees. Mexicans sent back to their country have usually been returned to U.S.-Mexico border crossings. U.S. President Donald Trump has made clamping down on unlawful migration a top priority of his three-year-old term in...

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) laid into Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Thursday for going through with the impeachment of President Trump despite zero House Republicans voting in favor of it because of its "sloppy" process. "Back in June, Speaker Pelosi promised the House would build an ironclad case. Never mind that she was basically promising impeachment months, months before the Ukraine events, but that’s a separate matter. She promised an ironclad case. And in March, Speaker Pelosi said this: 'Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there is something so compelling and overwhelming...

Total insanity. I already said my piece about “impeach and withhold” in this post but I’ll add that it’s so baffling to me that I can’t even muster a decent devil’s-advocate argument for it. If you were a lawyer and Pelosi tapped you on the shoulder and said, “I need you to stand up right now and argue that withholding impeachment from the Senate makes sense for Democrats,” what could you possibly say?The best I can do is this: “Senate Republicans are openly in the tank for Trump, boasting that they’re not impartial. Withholding the articles is a way...

On December 12, 2019 British voters sent a crystal-clear message that sent shockwaves through the political world: They want freedom (in the form of Brexit) and they do not want socialism (in the form of Jeremy Corbyn). How else can one explain the landslide victory for Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s pro-Brexit, anti-socialist Conservative Party, which won 43.6 percent of the vote—the highest percentage by any British political party since 1979?Adding insult to injury, the Conservatives won a net gain of 48 seats in Britain’s House of Commons while Corbyn’s anti-Brexit, pro-socialist Labour Party suffered a humiliating defeat. The Labour Party...

Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and GOP Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) predicted Wednesday that they would pass their revised S.386 bill, which opens a new pathway for more foreign temporary workers to stay, take Americans’ jobs, and lobby for more green cards. […] Utah GOP Sen. Lee said […]: "I’m going to make sure we’ve got the buy-in that we need [from GOP senators]. I want to make sure the [GOP] cosponsors of the legislation are comfortable with what we negotiated, and they understand it … I have every hope and expectation and confidence that this is going to result...

Lines of time set deep into the faces of 15 World War II veterans as they gathered in Boston to make the journey back to the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne Belgium. Despite not moving as quickly as they once did when they fought and liberated a country from Hitler’s German Army, there was a light that shone in their eyes with an eagerness to walk the battlefields for what was most likely, the last time of their lives.  The youngest of the group 94 years old – the oldest 97.  It was a journey...

George Soros, the billionaire financier is under an investigation for funneling nearly 3.4 million dollars into a campaign solely aimed at taking down Boris Johnson. The conservative political party in Britain has called for an urgent Electoral Commission probe into Soro’s American organizations after The Mail revealed that it funneled a large amount of money into a campaign purposely trying to block Brexit when it came to the ballot box. New York-based Open Society Foundation sent the funds to the Best for Britain group through a London outpost, avoiding the ban of foreign donations to political organizations.

Irked that there is a wide variation among the “family leave” policies practiced by different employers, Rep, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) recommended “we take a lesson from how we treat puppies. Typically, puppies stay with their mother for eight weeks before being put up for adoption. I think we should treat humans as well as we treat dogs.” AOC is reported to be working on a bill that mandates employers to provide a minimum of eight weeks paid family leave, spaying, neutering, or euthanizing the offspring—whichever best promotes the general welfare promise of our Constitution, and determining whether each child would...

President Trump's reelection campaign ripped Washington Post congressional reporter Rachael Bade for a since-deleted tweet that included a photo of four Post reporters with the caption "Merry Impeachmas" on Wednesday night after President Trump was impeached in two nearly party-line votes. "Merry Impeachmas from the WaPo team!" wrote Bade while having dinner and drinks after impeachment votes were cast in the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives. ⁦"@pkcapitol⁩ is buying ... w/⁦@karoun⁩ ⁦@seungminkim⁩ ⁦@mikedebonis⁩." Noah Rothman wrote an opinion piece this week in which he warned about the new generation of young Americans who are opposed to the free market. He quoted the inimitable (and reliably ignorant) Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who announced at the annual (and glitzy and high-tech) South by Southwest conference this past spring, “To me, capitalism is irredeemable.”              AOC, with her designer clothing, her chi-chi apartment (complete with garbage disposal), her stylish red lipstick and fab spectacles should try living someplace where the government agrees with her that “capitalism is irredeemable.” Like North Korea, or...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday defended her decision to hold off on sending impeachment articles to the Senate, calling Mitch McConnell a "rogue leader" in an unusual press conference where she repeatedly tried to shut down questions about the impeachment process. Pelosi spoke to reporters after Democrats passed two articles of impeachment against President Trump in a Wednesday evening vote. She indicated the House would eventually send the articles over to the upper chamber, but insisted it is up to the Senate to determine how the process develops going forward. “The next thing for us will be when we...

Death is Mercy to Secessionists By Bernard Thuersam on Mar 21, 2016 William T. Sherman viewed Southerners as he later viewed American Indians, to be exterminated or banished to reservations as punishment for having resisted government power. They were subjects and merely temporary occupants of land belonging to his government whom they served. The revealing excerpts below are taken from “Reminiscences of Public Men in Alabama,” published in 1872: Headquarters, Department of Tennessee, Vicksburg, January 1, 1863. [To] Major R. M. While watching "Jeopardy" the other night, I had a fantasy. Suppose Alex Trebek had a Final Jeopardy category called "The Ultimate Impeachment Hypocrite"? Here's how I thought it might go. Trebek: "We go first to Joe, who is in third place, and he wrote, 'Who is Bill Clinton?'" "No, that's wrong, but a good guess. Clinton did say about the House impeachment of President Trump: 'Congress is doing its job.' How much did you wager? All of it and you are left with nothing, like the Democrats with their trumped-up (pun intended) articles of impeachment. "Next we go to Mary...
