SIG SAUER is offering an extremely limited number of authentic M17s originally issued by the U.S. Army and fielded during the initial domestic and in-theater deployment of the Modular Handgun System. These unique, one-of-a-kind firearms feature the original coyote controls, the original government-issue markings and serial numbers, along with the U.S. Army specified front and rear sights. As these were fielded by the U.S. Army their condition will vary, making each one uniquely different, and making this truly an opportunity to own a piece of history.
The M17 Surplus handgun is a 9mm, striker-fired, P320-based handgun platform, featuring a coyote-tan PVD coated stainless steel slide, coyote-tan controls, a coyote-tan medium carry grip module, with the U.S. Government slide markings and serial numbers. The handguns are equipped with SIGLITE sights (orange rear & green front), removable night sight rear plates, and the same optic cut as specified by the MHS contract, ready to fit a SIG SAUER Electro-Optics ROMEO1Pro Optic. The M17 features an ambidextrous manual safety, ships with (1) 17-round and (2) 21-round magazines, includes an official SIG SAUER M17 Certificate of Authenticity, and comes packed just as the handguns are delivered to the U.S. Military.
Why do I expect these to be sort of a ripoff?
Probably the earlier model that can fire if dropped a certain way.
I was going to say, did they take the initially defective product call it historical so they can put it back on the shelf?
I guess history isn't as far back as it used to be. IMO, the M1917 is a "Piece of history" that worked, served it's purpose well and earned it's place in the history books. The M17 is just a piece of old junk.
A piece of history. The first US military pistol primarily designed to be easy for chicks to use.
BUT, WAIT!!! THERE’S MORE!!!
Unless it can micro-stamp, we can’t have it here in CA.
Do you have any Cop friend?
Heavens, no! That would be a Straw Purchase.
What I am suggesting is that his Cop friend acquire the gun, since police are exempt from only purchasing from the CAL DOJ approved list, even for personal use.
Then, if the Cop friend ever tires of the SIG, then he is legally allowed to sell it to our CA civilian FRiend.
I get it, though I am not sure that in CA a cop can resale a gun that wasnt on ‘the list’. If thats true I guess thats a good loop hole.
Yeah, he’s out on the lake with my boat. BTW, they’re about to close that loophole (LEO) too.
They did that already when they issued the Baretta back when I was in the Corps replacing the 1911’s
I got the one Colt made staring of with the next serial number after their government contract. First, I found a set of walnut diamond grips at a gun show to replace the composite grips it came with. Years later an acquaintance, who custom builds pistols, pawed around in his junk and found the piece with the lanyard loop and the original metal long trigger to replace the plastic (!?!) one it came with.
Beats me but I have a Sig M17 that is faithful to the issued version.

What they want to say is a piece of future history. Robert A. Heinlein and John W. Campbell Jr. would be so proud.
Which loophole? No longer allowing LEOs to buy off-list handguns, or no longer allowing LEOs to sell off-list handguns to non-LEOs?
Either way it's not surprising, since they busted some cops who were making a cottage industry out of buying off-list handguns and reselling them.
