Speaking at the annual convention of the Rabbinical Assembly in 1968, Dr. King said: The response of some of the so-called young militants does not represent the position of the vast majority of Negroes. There are some who are color-consumed and they see a kind of mystique in blackness or in being colored, and anything non-colored is condemned. We do not follow that course ... Peace for Israel means security, and we must stand with all our might to protect her right to exist, its territorial integrity and the right to use whatever sea lanes it needs. Israel is one...

As all eyes are on the House impeachment inquiry, elsewhere an agricultural bill that could provide a path to legal status for millions of illegal immigrants is rumbling through the chamber — leading immigration hawks to accuse lawmakers of trying to sneak in an amnesty while the nation is distracted. The Farm Workforce Modernization Act, passed in the House Judiciary Committee last month, is scheduled for a vote on the House floor Wednesday. The bill provides a process for undocumented farmworkers to seek a temporary five-and-a-half-year “Certified Agricultural Worker” status if they have worked for approximately six months in the...

After two years of legal wrangling, Harvey Weinstein and the board of his bankrupt film studio have reached a tentative $25 million settlement agreement with dozens of his alleged sexual misconduct victims, a deal that would not require the Hollywood producer to admit wrongdoing or pay anything to his accusers himself, according to lawyers involved in the negotiations. The proposed global legal settlement has gotten preliminary approval from the major parties involved, according to several of the lawyers. More than 30 actresses and former Weinstein employees, who in lawsuits have accused Mr. Weinstein of offenses ranging from sexual harassment to...

A U.S. Senate committee backed legislation on Wednesday to impose sanctions on Turkey after its offensive in Syria and purchase of a Russian S-400 missile system... The Republican-led Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted by 18-4 to send the “Promoting American National Security and Preventing the Resurgence of ISIS Act of 2019” for a vote in the full Senate. “Now’s the time for the Senate to come together and take this opportunity to change Turkey’s behaviour,” said Senator Jim Risch, the panel’s Republican chairman, a lead sponsor of the bill with Senator Bob Menendez, the panel’s top Democrat.... “This is not...

When Democrats announced their articles of impeachment Tuesday, the first charge was abuse of power. "The president's continuing abuse of power has left us no choice," said Adam Schiff. "To do nothing would make ourselves complicit in the president's abuse of his high office, the public trust, and our national security." Of course, presidents should be impeached for legitimate abuses of power. Their case against Trump, however, is super thin at best. Yet, for all of their platitudes about protecting our democracy and no president being above the law, they spent eight years ignoring Obama’s abuses of power, which makes...

In an interview with the Today show’s Jenna Bush Hager, former First Lady Michelle Obama said she and her husband Barack have one way in which they plan to be involved in politics “forever.” The conversation, conducted in Vietnam where the two women are promoting girls’ education, began with Mrs. Obama revealing that she and the former President were waiting to see who won the Democrat primary before offering support. “When it comes to the candidate, we have to wait and see who’s the victor, and then part of it is waiting to see, do they want our help?” she...

I heard Rush today answer the question, why are democrats doing this and one of his answers was to tarnish Trump. Totally disagree. This President is taking on the deep state. Powers who seek a global Government and were shocked they could not control our election. Impeachment of a true Patriot, which I believe Trump is, is a BADGE OF HONOR. The left sullies itself. It disgraces itself. It destroys itself. So to President Trump I as a citizen of the United States of America award you a Medal of Honor Sir. You have performed well beyond my comprehension of...

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear vowed during his inaugural address Tuesday to restore voting rights to more than 100,000 people convicted of felonies. "My faith teaches me to treat others with dignity and respect. My faith also teaches forgiveness," Beshear, a Democrat, said during his speech from the steps of the Kentucky capital in Frankfort. "That's why on Thursday, I will sign an executive order restoring voting rights to over 100,000 men and women who have done wrong in the past but are doing right now." "They deserve to participate in our great democracy," Beshear added. "By taking this step, by...

Attorney General William Barr does not seem to have read his own Justice Department report published this week finding that the FBI’s investigation of the Trump campaign was justified. If he had, he would be aware that the DOJ inspector general reached two principal conclusions about whether the FBI acted properly when it looked into whether the campaign colluded with Russia. First, the investigation uncovered troubling abuses of investigatory power. Second, those abuses were not motivated by political bias, because the decision to open the investigation was well warranted by the available evidence. Yet Barr summarized the work his own...

India's parliament has passed a bill that would give Indian citizenship to immigrants from three neighboring countries -- but not if they are Muslim. The controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) would fast-track citizenship for religious minorities, including Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians, from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Opposition parties say the proposed law is unconstitutional as it bases citizenship on a person's religion and would further marginalize India's 200-million strong Muslim community.

Blackouts are awful, especially as fans across the country watch their teams implode just in time for the playoffs (or, in the case of impeachment, the election season). Viewers have had to endure more than 230 blackouts because of outdated television rules.  Congress has within its power to offer a path to reform, but only if lawmakers reject narrow legislation that prioritizes nitpicking over real changes to the system. For the sake of millions of Americans planning a Super Bowl party or cheering on their political party, Congress must make it easier for consumers to enjoy quality programming. Sitting down in...

House Democrats urged the Supreme Court to allow them to enforce congressional subpoenas for President Donald Trump’s financial records, saying that the information was needed to protect the 2020 election from foreign interference. In a filing on Wednesday (pdf), the House attorneys argue that any harm suffered by Trump and his businesses from complying with the subpoena would be less severe than the harm the House and the public would suffer without having access to the financial records so that it could “exercise its constitutional functions.” The attorneys said the information was needed to determine if legislation is warranted to...

Swedish activist Greta Thunberg on Wednesday accused wealthier nations of inventing ways to avoid slashing their greenhouse gas emissions, branding their climate action "misleading" at a summit in Madrid. The UN climate forum tasked with saving the world from runaway global warming has become an "opportunity for countries to negociate loopholes and to avoid raising their ambition" to act on climate, the 16-year-old told delegates. "Countries are finding clever ways around having to take real action." Nations are at odds over how the fight against climate change should be funded and how carbon trading schemes should be regulated. In addition,...

When Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz published his report on the Hillary Clinton email investigation, some of us began to suspect that he was the deep state’s most clever ultimate protector. The IG’s strategy was to find a long list of malfeasances with which to excoriate an institution, in this case, the FBI—abuses that might, under normal circumstances, land multiple people in jail—slap the miscreants firmly on the wrist, and then let everyone off at the end with a disingenuous excuse (in the Clinton affair, a supposed similarity to the vastly less-serious accusations against Alberto Gonzalez, for which Bush’s...

Madrid - The United States was accused Wednesday of using crunch UN talks to avoid compensating poorer nations hit by climate change, despite its decision to leave the process to limit global warming. Delegates and observers at the COP25 negotiations in Madrid told AFP that Washington was pushing for a change in the rules of the UN climate convention that could let history's largest emitter largely off the hook when it comes to so-called "loss and damage" funding for developing nations. Under the bedrock UN climate treaty, adopted in 1992, rich nations agreed to shoulder more responsibility for curbing global...

Wednesday morning on The View, Whoopi Goldberg was out and Chris Christie was in. “Did you like that applause? All that adoration?” Joy Behar asked the former New Jersey governor after introducing him. “It beats booing, you know,” he replied. “That’s good. I’ll take it.” Abby Huntsman warned that it was “just the beginning of the show,” and she was right to be concerned because things got heated very fast when Behar asked Christie to weigh in on the impeachment of his one-time political ally Donald Trump.

As is now demonstrably clear, 2020 countywide Democratic candidates Kim Foxx and Mike Cabonargi are not feeling blessed. In fact, they are probably feeling angry, paranoid and downright disgusted. Both were the slated candidates for the state's attorney and Clerk of Circuit Court, respectively. Both were on the same nominating petition. Each gave the Democratic Party $40,000 to get the necessary minimum of 7,279 signatures, as well as to be on the party sample ballot and have a countywide mailer. And both are now in serious jeopardy of being knocked off the March 17 primary ballot due to an insufficient...

U.S. Women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe shamed Sports Illustrated for a “lack of diversity” even as she delivered her acceptance speech for the magazine’s “Sportsperson of the Year” award. Rapinoe took the podium Monday at the magazine’s award ceremony, but she took them to task for only having had four female persons of the year saying, “Is it truth that I’m only the fourth woman deserving of this award? I don’t think so,” Mediaite reported. Rapinoe went on scolding SI: “Is it true, so few writers of color deserve to be featured in this publication? No. Is it true, so...
