Madrid - The United States was accused Wednesday of using crunch UN talks to avoid compensating poorer nations hit by climate change, despite its decision to leave the process to limit global warming.
Delegates and observers at the COP25 negotiations in Madrid told AFP that Washington was pushing for a change in the rules of the UN climate convention that could let history's largest emitter largely off the hook when it comes to so-called "loss and damage" funding for developing nations.
Under the bedrock UN climate treaty, adopted in 1992, rich nations agreed to shoulder more responsibility for curbing global warming, and to help developing countries prepare for unavoidable future impacts -- the twin pillars of "mitigation" and "adaptation".
But there was no provision for helping countries already reeling in a climate-addled world, such as Mozambique and small island states literally disappearing under the waves.
A new mechanism was established in 2013, but with damage estimates running to $150 billion (135 billion euros) a year by 2025, there is no agreement on where the money might come from or even if it should be paid.
One of the tasks facing delegates in Madrid is reviewing the framework for how countries might pay and account for this money.
By seeking to apply the wording to the UN process as a whole, observers say the US is essentially proposing a liability waiver for richer countries in financing blameless poorer nations' fight against climate impacts.
Delegates representing developing countries said the US proposal was "unimaginable" and vowed to block it.

The U.S. is not the world’s largest emitter. China is, and is not covered by any of this because it is categorized as a “developing nation.”
America is not about to get a waiver when the whole scam was created to pick our pockets in the first place.

Anyone can make up outrageous claims of “climate damage”. You can blame every storm, every drought, every freeze, every flood. Loss of crops due to insects? Climate Change! Low fish harvest? Climate Change! Outbreak of STD’s? Climate Change! Landslides, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, heat, cold, homelessness, war, terrorism, etc, etc, etc? Climate Change! Now, you rich Americans, PAY US!
Climate Change is largely a European invention, so let them pay for it. They are already destroying themselves with their immigration policies, what’s a few hundred billion Euros a year? Get the US the hell out of this scam!
Is Mozambique planning on using that money as a raft to get everyone off the ravaged island?

Trying to change the climate is like whistling while walking through the cemetery.
What God has ordained will not be changed by his creatures - that’s you and me. We cannot change hurricanes, tornadoes - we cannot interchange spring and winter. Weather has it’s natural order and since the day of creation climate has constantly changed according to a divine plan. A plan of which we have only a glimpse. So stop spending billions to change it. Take what is in store for you - and enjoy.

Yes, amazing that countries are disappearing under the waves while the oceans here haven’t swallowed anything. In fact, Otoken bought a beachfront home for millions; doesn’t he know it will “disappear under the waves”?
Racial redistribution scheme, nothing less; if our history is any guide, the outstretched palms will be there in perpetuity. They’ll try anything except admit the WASP culture is simply superior to their primitive existence - regardless of which race puts it into action (it is a cultural, not genetic, deficiency).
