“‘But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you’” (Matthew 6:17–18). Jesus’ statement “when you fast” indicates that fasting is normal and acceptable in the Christian life. He assumes His followers will fast on certain occasions, especially in times of testing, trial, or struggle. Fasting is appropriate during times of sorrow. On occasions of deep grief, fasting is a natural human response. Most people don’t feel...

The House will vote next week to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress for declining to comply with a subpoena for special counsel Robert Mueller’s full report and related evidence. The resolution will also target former White House counsel Don McGahn, who has defied a Democratic subpoena to appear before Congress. The vote, scheduled for June 11, marks a major escalation of tensions between the Trump administration and House Democrats, who have launched a series of investigations into the president’s conduct in office — probes in which the White House has largely refused to cooperate. “The Attorney...

From the age of 14, I followed the lead of my mentor, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, and chose to dedicate my life to the Jewish people. To Ilhan Omar’s photographer: I first heard of you when one of our staff members told me that someone had called looking for the person he needed to sue. It was a strange and disturbing phone call which seemed to traumatize our staff. As you well know, Jews are under attack the world over, and threatening phone calls are unwelcome at the best of times but particularly now. You could have...

I saw Godzilla, King of the Monsters today. I've been a fan of the big lizard since I was a kid. However, I was disappointed in the movie today. I won't give any spoilers.Special effects are very good. Plot line is good. My problem with the movie, and this may not bother others, was the use of profanity, especially taking God's name, throughout the movie. There is also a reference to God as "she". I would recommend avoidance of this movie for these reasons.Sadly, this will be my last Godzilla movie I will go see.

Antisemitism is on the rise in the United States. We have now had, in the space of six months, two horrific shootings in which Jews were gunned down while praying in their synagogues. In the case of Rep. Jerrold Nadler, whose congressional district reportedly has the highest concentration of Jews and Jewish institutions in America, the answer may be found in a bizarre and unbelievably disappointing incident this week. The organization I run, the World Values Network (WVN), has its headquarters in Nadler’s district in Manhattan. We hold prayer services and classes, discussions and debates, lectures and counseling, and we...

Just the suggestion of former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore making another run at the U.S. Senate draws adverse reactions from some in the political class, and in recent days that has shown to be the case. In 2017, Moore lost by nearly 22,000 votes, a margin of 1.7%, to now-Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) for a seat that is up once again in 2020. During an interview with Huntsville radio’s WVNN, Moore said he had not yet made a decision on whether or not to run again but expects to during June.

**SNIP** It appears the Clinton machine knew that what it was doing was controversial. That’s why it did backflips to disguise the operation from Congress and the public, and in its Federal Election Commission (FEC) spending reports. Clinton and the Democratic National Committee used the law firm of Perkins Coie to hire Glenn Simpson’s research firm, Fusion GPS, which then hired Steele — several layers that obfuscated transparency, kept the operation off the campaign’s public FEC reports, and gave the Clintons plausible deniability. But Steele’s first overture on July 5, 2016, failed to capture the FBI’s imagination. So the Clinton...

The Supreme Court on Monday ruled that an Obama-era rule change on how Medicare reimbursements to hospitals are made should be removed because officials did not follow the proper notice and comment regulations in implementing the formula. The court ruled 7-1 to vacate the rule, with Justice Neil Gorsuch writing the majority opinion. Justice Stephen Breyer was the sole dissenting member of the court, and Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the newest member of the court, was not involved in the case. The highly technical ruling and dispute involves billions of dollars in Medicare payments to hospitals. The court ruled for hospitals...
