Can We Relax?

Bible in a Year: 2 Chronicles 21–22; John 14

Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

Darnell entered the physical therapist’s office knowing he would experience a lot of pain. The therapist stretched and bent his arm and held it in positions it hadn’t been in for months since his injury. After holding each uncomfortable position for a few seconds, she gently told him: “Okay, you can relax.” He said later, “I think I heard that at least fifty times in each therapy session: ‘Okay, you can relax.’ ”

Thinking of those words, Darnell realized they could apply to the rest of his life as well. He could relax in God’s goodness and faithfulness instead of worrying.

As Jesus neared His death, He knew His disciples would need to learn this. They’d soon face a time of upheaval and persecution. To encourage them, Jesus said He would send the Holy Spirit to live with them and remind them of what He had taught (John 14:26). And so He could say, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. . . . Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (v. 27).

There’s plenty we could be uptight about in our everyday lives. But we can grow in our trust in God by reminding ourselves that His Spirit lives in us—and He offers us His peace. As we draw on His strength, we can hear Him in the therapist’s words: “Okay, you can relax.”

By Anne Cetas

Reflect & Pray

What causes you stress? What characteristics of God can help you learn to trust Him more?

Teach me, Jesus, to trust Your faithfulness, to know Your presence, to experience Your peace—to relax.

GOD BLESS AND PROTECT
OUR TROOPS AND
OUR BELOVED NATION!

Torpedo Squadron Six (VT-6) TBD-1 aircraft are prepared for launching on USS Enterprise (CV-6) at about 0730-0740 hrs, 4 June 1942 during the Battle of Midway. Eleven of the fourteen TBDs launched from Enterprise are visible. Three more TBDs and ten F4F Wildcat fighters must still be pushed into position before launching can begin. The TBD in the left front is Number Two (Bureau # 1512), flown by Ensign Severin L. Rombach and Aviation Radioman 2nd Class W.F. Glenn. Along with eight other VT-6 aircraft, this plane and its crew were lost attacking Japanese aircraft carriers somewhat more than two hours later. USS Pensacola (CA-24) is in the right distance and a destroyer is in plane guard position at left.

BATTLE OF MIDWAY
4-7 JUNE 1942

VICTORY AT SEA
Episode 4 - "Midway Is East"
(Click)

Seventy-seven years ago, our men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces scored a momentous victory in engagement with the Imperial Japanese Navy in the waters near Midway Atoll. A scant seven months after the devastating attack on Pearl Harbor our forces, under the command of Adm. Chester W. Nimitz, inflicted telling damage upon the Japanese fleet: four aircraft carriers sunk, three of them almost simultaneously, by wave upon wave of outdated dive and torpedo bombers flown by intrepid young pilots who flew into the face of death with no thought of their own safety. Many of those pilots paid the ultimate price. By their sacrifice, they preserved our Freedom and our Beloved Nation.

God Bless them, God Bless them all, God Bless them good!

Please let me know by Freepmail if you would like
to be admitted to or released from my music pinglist.

Howdy, radu!

Hope you had a good day today and that the weather wasn’t as warm as it has been. It was really nice here, but I want more rain. I’m greedy. :)

Howdy, LUV.

It was a pretty nice day here. Not too hot at all. A good thing since Hubby decided to start moving the stuff I’d packed up at the other house. We moved some this afternoon and just finished moving the rest out.
Now I have to get more boxes because I stopped dealing with it when we decided we weren’t going to sell that house. Since I’ve finally convinced him we need to move into it, he’s rarin’ to go. That means I have to get the rest of Aunt Martha’s stuff out of there.

We’re greedy too! We want all the rain we can get. LOL
