Two gunmen opened fire Sunday evening outside a contest for cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad at Garland ISD's Curtis Culwell Center, police said. An Essex County man shot and killed the mother of his child - a 27-year-old teacher - in front of her East Orange home on Friday. A police officer on the scene then shot the man in response. GARLAND, Texas (AP) — A contest for cartoons depictions of the Prophet Muhammad in a Dallas suburb is on lockdown after authorities reported a shooting outside the building. An officer dressed in SWAT gear took the stage toward the end of the event at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland and told attendees, including an Associated Press reporter, that a shooting had occurred. MIAMI – Rosa Salgado is a 79-year-old grandmother who's English was limited when she moved to Miami from her native Colombia in 1995. Despite her age and language difficulties, Salgado graduated from college with a degree in education on Saturday, the Miami Herald reported.
