January 20, 2013 Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Reading 1 Is 62:1-5 For Zion’s sake I will not be silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not be quiet, until her vindication shines forth like the dawnand her victory like a burning torch. Nations shall behold your vindication, and all the kings your glory;you shall be called by a new namepronounced by the mouth of the LORD.You shall be a glorious crown in the hand of the LORD,a royal diadem held by your God.No more shall people call you “Forsaken, “or your land “Desolate, “but you shall be called “My Delight,...

Just a quick note. I am tired from driving to Phoenix to the protest against more gun laws at the capitol, then a quick look at the fairgrounds for the gun show, and then found my place in the desert broke into on the way back. I have some pictures of the rally at the capitol that I hope to post later. We arrived at the show about 11:45, and had a hard time finding parking. Finally found a spot and moved to the capitol. I counted out a hundred people, cut the crowd into roughly equivalent slices, and figured...

NBC News Special Report is now reporting that NO assault rifle was used in the Newtown school shooting. The AR15 rifle WAS left in the car and not used. For weeks now, who knew this and when? What then is the agenda for the attack on "assault rifle" or AR15 that was not used. Why the extreme effort to get effective defensive weapons out of the hands of citizens using whatever lies necessary? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8004316/ns/video/#VpFlash

If you've done some serious reading on 20th century activities of the "international banking elite", and reviewed the patterns of the last century, you would see the world's most powerful international banking new world order types way too close to the goal line for your personal comfort. The officer corps of the U.S. military is a key piece of the puzzle. At the beginning of the U.S. Civil War, the U.S. military basically divided itself into two sides and fought itself. The question then was on succession. In the future the question to the service members would be on federation:...

Every year, 20 million of them leave Scottish rivers and travel thousands of miles to Norway and Greenland to feed. Remarkably, they then return to Scotland, often to within 100 metres of where they were hatched, in a process that can take more than two years. How salmon complete such voyages across sea and ocean without getting lost has baffled scientists for generations. But a new theory proposes that the fish use the earth's magnetic field to locate their origins in Scottish rivers. Scientists believe that, in a process called "natal honing", salmon imprint the magnetic signature of their home...

In the fights over the fiscal cliff and now the debt ceiling, many conservatives were adamant: Republicans should reach an agreement with President Obama only in exchange for serious cuts in entitlement spending. It is the entitlements — Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security — that will drive future deficits, the conservatives argued, and without real cuts, the nation’s debt will spiral out of control in the not-too-distant future. Some Republican lawmakers have been stressing that point for weeks and demanding that the president agree to “real cuts” before any deal could be struck. But what has emerged from the House GOP...

In the midst of national debates on fiscal cliffs and gun control, could this also be the time to tackle our immigration woes? Let’s be honest and agree that U.S. immigration policy is a complete disaster. For too many decades, this country has ignored violations of our immigration laws, and now we have a real mess on our hands — an estimated 11 million people who have entered the country illegally and are living and working here under the radar. Whose fault is it? There is plenty of blame to go around, so I suggest we don’t even go there...

"I couldn't do this if I didn't have tenure." That's what law professor Paul Campos told me, sitting at a table in Brasserie Beck after a Cato panel on law schools. By "this", he meant "crtiticize law schools for their graduation rates", something he's been doing, vociferously, since 2011. In an interview with me a few months ago, Campos laid out the dire math facing current law students: I found that half of our graduates, like more than half of graduates nationally, weren't getting real legal jobs at all, and the majority of those who did get jobs weren't making...

The drama has long since died down, but there are still ongoing challenges to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's budget-balancing and public-sector union-disempowering reforms, as big labor will certainly use even its dying breaths to fight for their right to party. The legal battles will certainly continue, but Gov. Walker scored a win when a federal appeals court upheld his uber-controversial restrictions on public unions on Friday: A federal appeals court on Friday upheld Wisconsin Gov. Scott WalkerÂ’s contentious law stripping most public workers of nearly all of their collective bargaining rights in a decision hailed by Republicans but not undoing...

In late July 2011, Paul Boots, a supervisor at an oilfield on Alaska's North Slope, found a small, yellow plastic disc on a creekbed. Scientists 30 years ago tossed the disc into the sea as part of a study on arctic oil spills. Boots, who works at the large gravel pad that hosts the Badami oil field, was with his coworkers on an annual cleanup day along a nameless creek just west of the gravel pad. "I was enjoying a beautiful day and strayed a bit farther than most in my search for 'fugitive emissions' (everything we pick up has...

I'm intrigued and oddly impressed at how obviously Rand Paul's maneuvering for 2016. First the trip to Israel, then the bill to nullify any executive actions taken by Obama on guns, now this double-barreled shot at grassroots conservatives' new bete noire. One of the things about the elder Paul that some people loved and others found off-putting was that he never seemed terribly interested in ingratiating himself with mainstream conservatives. If you're a fan, maybe you took that as proof of principle, that he was above gladhanding political nonsense towards people foolish enough not to embrace libertarianism wholeheartedly. If you...

"The president who came into office speaking in lofty terms about bipartisanship and cooperation can only cement his legacy if he destroys the GOP. If he wants to transform American politics, he must go for the throat." So astonishingly wrote CBS News political director John Dickerson at Slate Friday evening in a piece astonishingly titled "Go for the Throat! Why if he wants to transform American politics, Obama must declare war on the Republican Party."Dickerson is no longer interested in Obama trying bipartisanship in his second term - as if that's what the President did in his first. "Obama’s only remaining...

Young, single ladies: America is worried about you. You just keep going to college, moving to urban areas after graduation and finding yourselves outnumbering, sometimes dramatically, the available men of your demographic. How will you ever get married? How will you ever go from being the subject of one kind of magazine cover to being the subject of another? Clearly the best thing to do is stay back on the farm to live in a male-dense rural area, where the marriageable boys are there for your picking. Or it was, until Tuesday, when an enterprising New York Times journalist named...

BEIJING is frequently shrouded in dense, yellowish smog so thick that the other side of the road is obscured. But the deadly smog that enveloped the city over the past weekend was so bad that air-quality readings from a monitor on the roof of the American Embassy said simply: "Beyond Index". The embassy uses the US Environmental Protection Agency's air-quality index (AQI), which measures the concentration of PM 2.5 (total mass of particulate matter of 2.5-micron diameter or smaller per cubic metre). Such particles are small enough to be inhaled and can damage lungs. The AQI range ends at 500;...

House Republicans will vote next week to raise the nation’s $16.4 trillion debt ceiling for three months and stop pay for members of Congress in until the Senate passes a budget — something it has not done in nearly four years. Speaker John Boehner said that the "principle is simple: no budget, no pay," during his closing remarks at the House Republican members retreat Friday in Williamsburg, Va. Details of how the no-pay proposal would work in practice are unclear, in light of existing budget law and constitutional restrictions on changing congressional salaries in the middle of a term. “We...

Via Breitbart: On August 1, 2009–just seven months into President Barack Obama’s first term–former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin predicted Obama would attempt to leverage health care to “take away” the Second Amendment rights of Americans. In a speech to National Rifle Association members in Anchorage, Alaska, Palin said Americans should be “wary” of this “tie-in” because Obama would attempt to “take away our rights under the guise of some new health care plan”:And by the way, [with] health care being so big in D.C. right now, be wary when some kind of tie-in occurs. Because it will crop up: a tie-in...

President Barack Obama offered on Saturday to provide any assistance the Algerian government needs after a deadly hostage siege at a desert gas plant and said the United States was seeking a "fuller understanding" from Algerian authorities of what took place there.
