CARMEL--The Board of Zoning Appeals granted a request for a new cellular phone antenna to be built into the brickwork of Northview Christian Life Church. Omnipoint Telecommunications will now install the antenna into the cross on the east side of the church at the intersection of Hazel Dell Parkway and 131st Street. The site is the highest elevation in Hamilton County. The move meets the city's hopes that cellular service companies would place new antennae on existing structures rather than build new, free-standing towers. Following the BZA approval of the Northview Christian Life Church site request, Omnipoint retracted its request ...

The day Cajun was Rajun about 'Rudy and his men being a thug', I recognized how it might be exploited as a way to reach for the elusive, extremely important Victim Mantle, since Thug = Mafia = Italian = Smear against Rudy. So I got busy posting at least three or four copies of how this could be exploited, following up with emails all over Rudy's various sites.Well, today Cajun retreated, saying he does not want to smear Italians.Dammit. Next time I shut up and email Rudy quietly. Ok, Cajun, you got away with it this time, but next time ...

Did any Chicago Freepers hear the WLS morning new today with the news that Chicago Police officers will no longer be allowed to question suspects with weapons in their possession? I tried looking in the Chicago Trib., and the Sun Times online versions, but could not find a reference to it any place. IMHO this is the first step in removing all those nasty guns from the hands of the police. For the Children don't you know!

Once, not so long ago, trade was the province of policy wonks and special interests--and the experts and lobbyists liked it that way. No longer. Now it's a hot political issue. One reason is the growth of trade; just 4 percent of GDP in the early fifties, it's more than 13 percent today. Another is that international capital flows, ranging from productive pursuits like building factories to speculative ones like betting against national currencies, have grown even more strongly. And still another is that the areas covered by trade agreements have widened from traditional concerns with tariffs and quotas to ...

Once upon a time, not so long ago, Communist regimes dotted the globe and Americans knew what we thought of them. We disliked them. Because we saw ourselves as the heart and mind and muscle of liberty, we felt obliged, as a matter of principle, to resist the advance of these dictatorships—and to remember and speak for their already conquered victims. For 40-plus years following World War II, anti-communism was a central means by which America defined its place in the community of nations. Not anymore. These past 10 years, with the Berlin Wall a ruin, the United States has ...
