Phillip Knightley places the Kosovo atrocity stories in their historical context If history is any guide, then many of the atrocity stories from Kosovo that have dominated the media since the end of the war will turn out to be false. Written and filmed by some of the self-styled "mass-grave correspondents", they may at the moment appear to have the chilling ring of truth: after all, mass graves have unquestionably been found. Some of the stories may indeed be genuine, but many will vanish under investigation, or the scrutiny of time. When passions have cooled - as one hopes that ...

NO FIVE-DAY WAITING PERIOD ON CHINESE NUKES June 14, 1999 Mr. Speaker, China spies and buys our secrets. Then China points their missiles at American cities. Now if that is not enough to put trigger locks on Chinese missiles, a White House spokesman said, and I quote, `We will grant China swift admission to the World Trade Organization.' Swift admission no less. Beam me up here. I am firmly convinced those experts at the White House are smoking dope. I yield back the fact that there is no 5-day waiting period on Chinese nukes. Think about that. CALLING FOR RESIGNATION ...

NEW DELHI: Prudence demands that India should be prepared to face Pakistan's threat of using the nuclear option in the event of a war, Union home minister L.K. Advani has said. ``Pakistan is capable of taking irrational decisions and India is vigilant and alert to Islamabad's threat of using the nuclear option,'' Mr Advani said in an interview to Doordarshan on the 25th anniversary of opposition to Emergency in the country. There were different centres of power in Pakistan with the government, ISI and army functioning independently. The fear of Pakistan using nuclear weapons was one of the reasons for ...

A PAKISTANI peace plan for Kashmir was torpedoed by its generals yesterday as fighting in the disputed region threatened to explode into all-out war. Under the proposal, reportedly considered by the Indian cabinet late last week, Islamic militants would begin a phased withdrawal from Indian-controlled Kashmir. The plan followed American pressure on the Pakistanis to defuse the increasingly tense standoff between the two nuclear states. However, Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan's army chief, announced that Pakistan "will not withdraw unilaterally" from the battle zone of Kargil. It was the first apparent admission by Pakistan that its forces had crossed the 1972 ceasefire ...

NATO Learns – Too Late – for Whom It Won a War It is becoming harder by the day to justify NATO’s continued collaboration with the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). A front page article in the June 25 New York Times cites KLA commanders, former Albanian government officials, and Western diplomats who claim KLA leader Hashim Thaci and two of his lieutenants led purges of the KLA ranks, to root out and kill potential challengers to Thaci’s leadership. No one has come forward to say they witnessed Thaci or his associates, Azem Syla and Xhavit Haliti, personally carrying out the ...

Well, it’s Sunday afternoon. Time for us to reflect on the week past and the weeks to come; a time for introspection and peace of mind; a time for solitude; but also a time to renew friendships and make pledges to treat all Freepers with respect and kindness. Also it’s time to start a Fun-Flame War. The following truth is submitted for your review and comment: Chili is the one great All-American food. Oh, sure you can claim your Virginia Baked Ham, or your NY style Pizza, but you would be dead wrong. Lately, the Vast Left Wing Conspiracy has ...

For education and discussion only. Not for commercial use. As Sgt. Joe Ligoci sat at a traffic signal one day in his police cruiser, a driver in a vehicle behind him grew increasingly impatient. "He had a little touch of road rage," said Ligoci, a veteran member of the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department in Syracuse, N.Y. Ligoci said the motorist blew his horn. When the signal turned green, he cut off the sergeant's cruiser and "flipped me off," Ligoci said. As the driver sped away, Ligoci thought how wonderful it would be to stop the car and do it safely ...

....“You’ve got to understand what the militia is,” he said. “In May of 1792, five months after the adoption of the 2nd Amendment, the Militia Act was passed. That act distinguished between the enrolled militia and the organized militia. Before the passing of that act, there was only the enrolled militia, which was the body of all able-bodied men between the ages of 17 and 44, inclusively, and it is that militia to which the 2nd Amendment refers. It couldn’t refer to the organized militia because it didn’t exist yet. The 2nd Amendment was to ensure that this body of ...

Here is the Cartoon from last Friday. It shows that guns provide Safety and takes a stab at the EPA (maybe). Anyhow it is good for a chuckle or two. I am not sure, but I think the cartoon character names come from street names in San Francisco, CA, one of the most liberal cities in the US. I guess Jim Toomey is getting tired of some of the Kneepad Liberals there.

Kargil Special U.S. HINTS AT BLOCKING LOAN UNLESS PAK QUICKLY WITHDRAWS WASHINGTON: A senior U.S. official has hinted at blocking a $100 million IMF loan to Pakistan unless it quickly withdraws from the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir. "Impoverished Pakistan cannot afford a full-scale war and is counting on receiving a $100 million loan next month from the IMF. Washington could hold up those funds to pressure Pakistan," the Washington Post quoted the State Department official as saying, reports PTI. The Juanita Broaddrick Charges: Too Hot for the Press to Handle? Julia Malone June 24, 1999 With Vice President Al Gore's sudden epiphany that his boss's behavior with with Monica Lewinsky was "unforgivable" -- and his wife Tipper said to be outraged by Bill Clinton's symbolic semen stain on the Oval Office, now might be a good time for the Second Couple to remember that Sexgate has an even darker side. Bill Clinton's alleged rape of Juanita Broaddrick still haunts Washington like no other scandal in living memory. In fact, the prospect that America might have elected, then re-elected, a ...

***1984/1999*** 50 Years later, Orwell's novel is partly right*** ========================================================= Fifty years ago George Orwell's 1984 was published, a book that lent its title, as well as many phrases, to everyday parlance. There must be myriad folks who never cracked the cover of 1984 yet who have exclaimed, perhaps when confronted by security cameras: "Big Brother is watching you." Which is not to say that Orwell's last novel has struggled for readers. Two weeks before 1984 appeared in British book shops, Orwell told his publisher that he hoped it might sell a modest 10,000 copies. The novel became a bestseller ...

Clintons tee up home in golfing country of upstate New York By James Langton in New York Bill and Hillary Clinton, armed with a budget of $3 million and a troop of security advisors, have settled on a shortlist of three houses for when they move out of the White House. The President and the First Lady have not yet been spotted in exclusive Westchester County, a smart suburb north of New York City where actors such as Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins live, but rumours suggest the removal van is on its way. Mrs Clinton needs a New York ...

For education and discussion only. Not for commercial use. Only three weeks after a federal appeals court chastised the Environmental Protection Agency for abusing its constitutional authority, agency Chief Carol Browner is again strong-arming Michigan and 11 other states over more dubious regulations . The worst of it is, Ms. Browner actually is claiming that a typo in the Clean Air Act — a typo! — misconstrues the full extent of her regulatory powers. So forget what the law actually states, Ms. Browner argues. She plans to act based on how she believes the law should read. Michigan is among ...

WHY THE SECRECY? A Millennium Group Report Earl L. Crockett, Writer Over the last few years we all have experienced various situations where NASA has covered up, altered, or otherwise kept space information and data hidden from public view. Our first big example was, and still is, the fact that not one close range photo of Hale-Bopp has ever been released from the Hubble Space Telescope, or any other major U.S. observatory. We are also painfully aware that live, uncensored or delayed, broadcasts of space data and photos are simply no longer available. In addition we see ...
