BY ROBERT NOVAK SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST Federal District Judge Royce Lamberth will be asked Monday to subpoena Hillary Rodham Clinton for a deposition in the FBI files case, opening a second judicial front for the first lady at the outset of her prospective campaign for the U.S. Senate. Mrs. Clinton's political advisers have been aware that her campaign start might collide with Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr's intention to summon her as a witness in the trial of former Associate Attorney General Webster Hubbell beginning Aug. 9. But the Clinton candidacy is also about to be hit by the lawsuit against ...

For fair use Cold War II Kosovo’s legacy by Barbara Ehrenreich It’s an ugly peace, to say the least, when the victors keep chortling over each mass grave they uncover. “See, we were right to pulverize Serbia!” they crow — not noticing that the mass graves are material evidence of NATO’s own ineptness and, it must be said, savagery. For 78 days of war, that proud alliance refused to let the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo deter it for one moment from the urgent business of bombing Serbia back into the era of candlelight and campfires. It would have been too ...

Senator James Inhofe (R-OK), Senate, June 23, 1999 "I fully realize that the majority of Americans will not believe me. They have continued to believe our President even after he has demonstrated over and over that he has no regard for the truth." "The Cox Report has shed light on the fact that the Clinton administration has actually helped China in its technology acquisition efforts or made it easier for them to commit thefts and espionage." Mr. President, I ask that you listen again. I am going to pick up on the incredible but true story of the Clinton ...

Does any one know the status of Bill Clinton's law license investigation in Arkansas? If the complaint has basis (and indeed it does), it should become a public file and go to a hearing. Any information would be appreciated.

Senators Blast Administration On China Spying Full Coverage China Nuclear Spying WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican and Democratic senators criticized Sunday the Clinton administration's handling of allegations of Chinese nuclear spying. Reacting to a New York Sunday Times report that the White House was told of the technology loss in 1995, an angry Sen. Orrin Hatch, a Republican from Utah, told Fox News Sunday, ''That's the kind of crap that really shouldn't go on. I'm sick of it and that's one reason I'm running (for president).'' Sen. John McCain, another Republican presidential hopeful, seemed more disappointed than angered by the Times ...

The past three years have seen revelations of Chinese contributions to President Clinton, transfer of U.S. military technology to the Chinese, obstruction of congressional investigations by Congressional Democrats, and efforts to diminish the issue by the mainstream media. Last week the final twist in the Chinese penetration of the U.S. security apparatus was emphasized: the witch-hunt by the Clinton administration for anti-communist and anti-PLA employees within the administration. A hearing of the Burton Committee last week focused on how these anti-communists and anti-PLA national security officials were in a position to thwart Chinese espionage and technology acquisition and hence ...

WASHINGTON - The rising importance of personality in TV-age politics was the heart of Al Gore's honors thesis at Harvard in 1969. Today, personality is the very trait some people think is missing in Mr. Gore's bid for the presidency. Asked what word best describes Mr. Gore, two-thirds of Americans polled this spring said, "Boring." Mr. Gore jokes about his reserved demeanor. But 30 years ago, he speculated in his thesis that because of television, future presidents would have to have personalities that play to the cameras. As soon as TV cameras began panning the political landscape, as soon ...

Senator Robert F. Bennett, Chairman Special Senate Committee on the Year 2000 Technology Problem Opening Statement Good morning and welcome. Today's hearing focuses on individuals and communities preparing for Y2K, as well as the media's role in providing information to help them make reasonable Y2K preparations. This Committee's prior hearings have sought to increase awareness of the Y2K problem and help facilitate solutions for various economic sectors or industries. Awareness of the Y2K problem is now widespread and implementation of solutions is well underway. While there is still time to reduce Y2K-related disruptions, we must engage in contingency planning -- ...

The "dog days" of summer 99 are upon us.By August, "roll over one more time" Webster Hubble will have to make up his mind [or have it made up for him] on how to plead in Starr's tribunal.[The press will spin it as an 'inquisition']Or worse. The charges against Hubble are complex ,as they involve not only his wife, but goes a step further . A bit softer than "unindicted co-conspirator" in Starr's indictment of Hubble, Hillary Clinton is not even mentioned by name in the pages of accusations relating to Mr. Hubbles' misdeeds. We do know he served jail time once, ...

Non-communist China? The White House fought attempts to label the government of China "communist" in the select House committee's report revealing espionage in U.S. nuclear labs. Clinton administration officials prodded the committee chairman, Republican Rep. Christopher Cox of California, to use the phrase "Chinese leadership" instead of "Communist Party leadership" in reporting stolen U.S. nuclear secrets. Cox compromised with "PRC [People's Republic of China] leadership." The White House told Cox that use of the word communist could jeopardize U.S. intelligence gathering in China.
