‘The end of the world as we know it?’ I don’t think so "Darth Sidious"Columnist According to some students of esoteric lore, the next month or so is when Nostradamus prophesied the end of civilization would occur, with a great cataclysm. Nilus, a fourth century Christian, foretold of the coming of the Antichrist before the end of 1999, after describing in detail such things of this century as telephones, aircraft and world war. All over the world people have become so terrified of the “Y2K bug” that some are digging bunkers and stocking up on food and ammo, hoping to “ride out” ...

The news is cranking up a story where Osama Bin Laden is getting ready to commit another act of terror against the United States. This from the same group of people who just got their asses sued for blowing up an aspirin factory they thought Bin Laden owned. If this government had the assets to know what Bin Laden was up to, they would know where he was, right? Coupled with thhe sudden regurgitation of OJ Simpson (and Fox News just announced a special reliving the Charles and Diana wedding), it's clear that our government and media are trying to ...

For education and discussion only. Not for commercial use Debt-forgiveness frauds to tune of $77 million WASHINGTON -- One man apparently altered his twin brother's death certificate -- changing the name and Social Security number to match his own -- to get out of paying his student loans. Another borrower who had almost $11,000 in loans forgiven in September 1994 for the supposedly permanent disability of "chronic low back pain" went on to earn more than $57,000 just three years later. Over a 2 1/2-year period, the Education Department forgave nearly $4 million in student loans for borrowers who ...

Robert Aderholt's amendment to a juvenile crime bill that would allow states to decide whether to permit such displays on government property. The amendment, Aderholt said, was a ``first step'' for government in reinstilling the value of human life in children influenced by violent culture. One lawmaker, Rep. Bob Barr, R-Ga., said recently that if the Ten Commandments had been posted at Columbine High School, the April 20 ...

How to be revoltin' © 1999 Claire Wolfe "So, Claire, you open your big yap and tell people they need to be 'ungovernable' if they want to be free. That's easy to say. Question is, just what do you propose we do?" I looked up from the day's unidentifiable special at the Hog Trough Grill and Feed. There was Grouchy -- Hardyville's well-named gun store owner -- standing with fists on hips. He demanded, "You make big noise about freedom. So why don't you tell all us ignorant folks, now? What should we do about it?" "You can't describe that ...

Challenging many educators' belief that money improves public education, a study being released today finds no relationship between student performance and school spending. An analysis of Massachusetts test scores by two Suffolk University economists says that schools that spend more on administrative expenses consistently report poorer test scores. Part of the explanation may be that increasing funding for central offices comes at the expense of instruction, the study's authors suggest. But educators yesterday largely dismissed the study, saying many districts have high per-pupil costs because their students are so disadvantaged. Those students need more support services, they said, and ...

Interesting that many of our leaders that are favored by the media seem to be able to trace their family lineage to the England. I seem to remember Clinton going over there, and trying to claim that he was related. (Blythe) Kennedy was Irish, and went over there to boast of his heritage. Didn't Carter try something too? George Bush, as portrayed on A&E's Biography, claims heritage that goes back to Henry the Third. Is this why so many of them seem to feel that it is their "God-given" right to rule? Is there some kind of "king" complex going ...

Although critics see the 'beast as an unpersuasive diva, whose tone is that of one who has toured too long in the role, she is to be feared for her talents. She has a singular appetite for tyranny through martyrdom. Astrologers have warned of the accidental alignment in her planetary aspects. Free Republic is not the best choice for a discussion of their findings, but interested readers should be warned of this lethal combination which occured in the fall of 1947.
