BALTIMORE - U.S. Catholic bishops elected their first ever Latino leader in a vote on Tuesday, elevating Archbishop Jose Gomez as president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
Gomez, the Archbishop of Los Angeles, succeeds Cardinal Daniel DiNardo for whom he served as vice-president over the past three years. He was elected by an overwhelming majority of 176 votes during the first ballot and received an immediate standing ovation from the bishops present in the grand ballroom of the Marriot Waterfront Hotel.
Archbishop Allen Vigneron of Detroit will serve as Gomez’s vice-president for the three-year term. He was elected with 151 votes on a third-round ballot, beating out Archbishop Timothy Broglio, who leads the archdiocese for Military Services and received 90 votes.

That is the point. It is mentioned in the headline that he is hispanic as if that is some kind of achievement who rose against insurmountable odds over oppression and harassment by whites who will stop at nothing to keep slightly less white people down. There is literally nobody working against him, nobody is trying to stop him, there is no reason on the planet to mention his ethnicity as if it was a barrier
My quips like that are always facetious, ironic, sarcastic, or smarmy depending on my mood. I always assumed that was obvious

I’m in LosAngeles, Gomez took over from Mahoney (the top leader of the Liberal Church).
Gomez has been in charge here for 8 years. He has a go along to get along style.
Our REVERSE communion procession still starts from the back rows first, front rows last.
Social activist group are still present on church premises with tables after mass to register Democratic voters.
The yearly Religious Education Congress, a yearly conference to educate and coach religious teachers is still filled with heretical speakers.
Gomez still speaks for the undocumented/illegal aliens as if their welfare and right to be here tops the order of law.

Both were my superiors. Vigneron is excellent and should be the pope. Gomez is useless and should work at a tire store.
You have painted an accurate picture. Detroit bishop #2 makes it much worse.
