An Italian scientist says he has reproduced the Shroud of Turin, a feat that he says proves definitively that the linen some Christians revere as Jesus Christ's burial cloth is a medieval fake. The shroud, measuring 14 feet, 4 inches by 3 feet, 7 inches bears the image, eerily reversed like a photographic negative, of a crucified man some believers say is Christ. "We have shown that is possible to reproduce something which has the same characteristics as the Shroud," Luigi Garlaschelli, who is due to illustrate the results at a conference on the para-normal this weekend in northern Italy, said on Monday. A professor of organic chemistry at the University of Pavia, Garlaschelli made available to Reuters the paper he will deliver and the accompanying comparative photographs.

“Yes, and Im sure Ruffians house is totally disinfected of any and all reminders of his or her pastno letters, locks of hair. . . “
And I guess your house is infected with ancient heirlooms of your great-great grandparents that were really made in China a couple years ago.
If this shroud was a legitimate historical item, it would be super-cool.
It, however, appears to be a fake, albeit an 800 year old fake.
(Oh, and FreeRepublic courtesy is to copy a poster whom you slime so they can respond.)
You nail it here. It's somewhat like atheists, who claim they have no religion but then are often more zealous than any one in preaching and pushing their particular faith. Here we have people so intent on stopping idolatry that they then feel the need to invent idols so they can have something to work against. Sad way to go thru life when you think about it.
If you dont believe the cloth bears the face of Jesus Christ, youre doomed to Hell.
Please, point me to those posts. I haven't seen any of them.
You are correct...hence the phrase “other radiometric dating methods” in my post.
Anti-Catholicism, pure and simple.
Admit your problem.
Part of your problem is you are not well-read on this subject, and you can’t ever express an educated opinion because you wouldn’t “contaminate” yourself by reading about it. Sad.
I’d find another thread if I were you — you’re wasting your time and our time.

We, as in fallen sinful creatures, Slick.
Who said that?
Thanks!
lol
You keep saying that...but what's your evidence? As a half-dozen people have already said, the Carbon-14 test HAS BEEN DEMONSTRATED to have been contaminated with medieval material.
Where was this said?
“Can you show them to me?”
The hysterical anger of some on this thread regarding the possibility that the shroud is a fake is compelling evidence of weak faith.
Look, the burden of proof is on the proponents of the thread. What they have is a cloth that poppsed up in the 1200s.
The theory used to be that it was “impossible” to recreate the image. Well, this experiment shows that it could be created with tools available at the time of appearance.
The fake icon trade was brisk back in the day (like now), giving a great motive for a fake to be generated.
The C-14 dating, while disputed, is consitent with the fake theory.
So, in sum, proof the shroud is real is the word of some traders who were out to make a buck circa 1200.
Looks slim to me.
Let's get a real food-fight going.
Hyperbole for humor, yes, but my faith was challened a number of times right here by various Shroudies.
Try again. We'll wait.
Don't try to attempt to say that relics breed idolatry in MY mind. Speak for yourself.
Please do not project your particular fallen sinfulness on those of us whose fallen sinfulness leads in other directions.
A person does not need physical objects to obtain or maintain their Christianity. But the God of today is the same as the God of the Israelites. He is the Pillar of Fire in the dessert. When the king of Babylon used the plates from God's temple for a feast God wrote his doom on a wall and took from him his empire. When the Ark of the Covenant was captured and placed before an idol the idol fell on it's face before the ark. Objects can be sacred. They are not vital for salvation. They should not be prayed to. When Jesus dies the curtain was torn asunder. There is no priesthood or barrier that separates us from the Holy of Holy. But God has not changed. An object touched by Jesus would surely be an article of faith. Until disproved it should in the least make men wonder, and remind them victory over death was won if not inside that specific shroud at least one like it.
