Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
You sure you just ain't reached the age of 50? You just described how I feel most of the time. LOL :)
Really I'll keep you in my prayers.

Did I? I'm not in the habit of lieing. It was not meant to be belittling or demeaning. I apologize if I offended you are any of the Catholics though. I hope we all follow Christ but what did someone say here once? The Baptists are like cats? (Independent, even of each other) All I meant was that you have a lot of sources and guidelines. I try to avoid these. It wasn't meant mean but just to point out why we can get along (most of the x) but have such differences but both still be Christians.
Do you ever bother to read anything that I post? The first teachers of Predestination were Jesus , Peter and Paul. The Baptists were the first church to teach that doctrine , why ? Because it is the doctrine of the Bible .
Honestly, no, not all the time. I told you that it's just too much at one x for me. When it's you talking I'm with you but when it's c/p spam I usually scroll past to read later if I get x.
The Augustine taught it , and Luther a student of Augustine taught it . It is called "Calvinism" is ONLY AS A NICK NAME Calvin was the first man to sit down and write a "Systematic Theology ". So the doctrines of Grace are often called buy his name
. "Yeah but I don't go around quoting these two guys either
" Kevin posted Chapters from the "Institutes" on FR for discussion . I believe that study , of scripture presented in an orderly systematic way, letting the scripture determine the doctrine is what brought Kevin to Calvinism. As for you assertion that we follow a man, I might point out that Calvinism is the faith of the reformation because it is in the Bible . Although you do not like to think it ,you have fully placed your faith in the man that stands before you on Sundays to preach. You have accepted the theology of that man and not searched the scriptures as the Bereans did . I know that because when I ask you for the scripture to confirm what you believe , you offer none as citation . What you do is repeat the teachings you sit under.
Not true lol. First of all I don't post much scripture to you caz I feel you have heard it all and I know I'll get a c/p prepared argument shortly. Anything can be debated out of context and it tires me to do this post after post but you should go back and see some of the posts where I have asked "where in the bible you are finding this" of my preacher. He likes to use , what did Quester call it, pastors authority? and it drives me nuts. Secondly.I didn't even know what a fundamentalist was or that I was one (if I have to have a label) until I came to this thread. I came from a church where the preacher expected everyone to follow him in the bible and emphasized that it was our responsibility to make sure that any time someone quoted scripture that we look it up for accuracy ourselves.
As for Malakhi, I look at it that he's half way there so 50 % of the x he's got to be right . ( just teasing, Mal ). Engines aren't always at the front you know. He might have been in the lead today but who is to say Becky wasn't steering :') No, the Bible tells us that the Jews read the old Testament without understanding because they have been blinded to the truth. ( look it up if you doubt me, both OT and NT )
Really? They don't understand the OT? Better take this up with Mal, I guess. I would ask for scripture but I don't want you calling me a hypocrite:')
And Cindy , salvation is not like horseshoes, close does not count .
Hey we agree. I can think of better uses for horse shoes though than a ring:')
Peace, ok?
Eddie with me and so encouraging though. Talking about putting me in a restraint so I wouldn't fall off and "just get on the horse or sell him". "I'm not paying for you to walk him around and you are going to cause me to miss surviver". That made me mad and I went right on. I was very comfortable once up and no fears about falling. I rode a little and dismounted with no problems. I think yesterday just a fluke. I did learn what to watch for if you cinch too tight though:') Okie was so good and patient with me. He just wanted out. I saddled him and started out and realized I had forgot his briddle. He didn't really want to go back in which made me feel good that he's enjoying getting out and riding too. I think he was just bored in the arena. He has to look at everything we pass. Some birds flew out of the grass and spooked him a little and he jumped but not much seems to bother him except that crazy stallion he has to go by in the barn. That horse gonna get out sooner or later. The whole door bowing in the middle yesterday.
Cindy, even though you dispute the Reformed position of the Protestant Reformation, there really is a lot to learn. RnMom knows her Scripture, i.e.
"Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not steadfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which veil is done away in Christ.
But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart. Nevertheless, when it shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away." - 2 Corinthians 3:12-16.
It couldn't be much "plainer."
BAH! It's called "Calvinism" because "Bucerism" would drive converts away (it sounds too much like a disease).
And Augustine was no Calvinist. Like Paul, his words (like his practices) are cherry-picked to show only one side of the coin.
I'd like to ping the Moderator, but I've been told you guys police yourselves.
Guess not.
Yada yada yada.
The beauty of accusing an opponent of "spiritual blindness" is that it relieves one of the duty to answer his objections or refute his arguments.
You won't see this, though, because God has hardened your heart against the truth.
Why do some "whosoevers "come and others not? We say it was because the Father draws them. That the Holy Spirit quickened them and restored the will that was in bondage because of the fall ... and you say ???
Would such not restore the will to like what was present in Adam (i.e. an undoing of the effect of the Fall), where the (now unbound) will could make it's own choice to obey God (or not) ... as did Adam ?
That's great news Hav! I'll be praying it works out for you.
