The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Well, I must say that RnMom was wrong on this one. She thought it would take you a whole year to come to deny the whole New Testament.

I am sorry I was right on this one Kevin.

I will now begin the process of conversion to Judaism.

Goodness. A guy goes away for a few days and he can REALLY fall behind here. I will hold any "religion of the month" jokes for an appropriately respectful period.

I began my journey Catholic, I left them for Protestantism, I left them for Messianic Judaism, I left them for Monotheist Messianic Judaism and now:

Just for my money... the first move was the start down that slippery slope.

We'll continue to prey pray for you.:-)

Yeah, me too.

The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him shall ye hearken;....

...I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. - Deuteronomy 18:15,18-19

This is not a personal attack, it’s just questions I’d be asking myself if it were me who had made all these changes in such a short time.

Yes it is. You didn't read the part of my metamorphisis.

JOHN 14:6 (NIIV -- New Invincibly Ignorant Version)

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me -- except Iggy, of course.

drstevej does have a constitutional right to a sense of humor. If drstevej fails to exhibit one, a sense of humor will be supplied to him by the State.

Wow, I have to say I really didn't see this coming. I've been offline all weekend, I only have a very short time today before the start of Passover, and I'll be offline again the next two days. Let's talk later in the week. Chag Sameach!

Calvinists - 5

I can think of two: Terry and Kevin. Who are the other three?

She repudiated the religion recently (and is sort of in this wierd stage of unbelief that closely resembles Starhawk's brand of Judaism.

From what I have heard and read, she has ceased to be observant according to Orthodox standards, but that she has not "repudiated Judaism". She was Conservative before she became Orthodox. If you have tangible evidence of what you claim, I'd like to see it.

Congratulations.

Thanks, Dave!

Its been a busy week. At the suggestion of a friend, though, I didn't bring any chametz into the house after I moved in, so my preparation for Passover has been relatively simple.

My bet is that, within the next year, you decide that Talmudic Judaism is also wrong. Can't wait to see if you fall before Baal & Ashteroth first, or just take the plunge and jump right into Moloch worship.

Now that is just plain offensive and unnecessary.

Out of curiousity, have you always held your current beliefs? Or have your religious beliefs evolved over time?

"I will now begin the process of conversion to Judaism. I don't yet know which kind. May God strengthen you all in your quest for truth as well."

Well, truly you will understand if I note this, to me, is a sad development. I don't mean to 'pile on' but I am curious about something.

When you originally entered these threads, you had already left Catholicism, convinced it was impossible within the confines of the Church for you to find a 'personal relationship' with Jesus.

You seemed, at least in the early threads, to be fairly certain you had a 'personal relationship' with Jesus -one you had found after leaving the Church.

Would you now say you were mistaken in this belief and that, in fact, you never had such a 'personal relationship?'

Assuming that means leavening, is this something you were able to do previously, or is it a new thing you can do cause of the new situation? I know we always have a well-stocked pantry (buy in bulk when it's on sale, ya know) and the idea of cleaning out anything leavened seems quite daunting, especially with young-uns around.

We have a total confluence this year, with Passover and both East and West Holy Week's coinciding. So we can wish everyone a good holy experience.

Bingo. In previous Passovers, I would avoid eating chametz, but because of the need to compromise due to my personal situation, I was unable to do more than that.

Now that is just plain offensive and unnecessary.

By all means, please explain to me how the Babylonian Talmud entry in Gittin 56b-57a isn't offensive. And please offer your own beliefs as to said Talmud, the eternal fate of one "Jesus of Nazareth", and of those of us who are His followers.

Please feel free to use the online Jewish Encyclopedia as a starting point. See the listing for "Jesus of Nazareth", under the subsection "Resurrection", middle of the paragraph. Look for the sentance with the phrase "the degrading fate of those who mock the wise", which specifically links the Talmud entry I named above (which talks about a man named "Balaam") with one "Jesus of Nazareth".

And I thought this thread almost dead :') The Calvinists have revived it) As one of neither do you find it as ironic as I do that the Calvinists who believe in predestination and nothing they do will make a difference are giving him hell whereas a lot of the rest of the us who believe in free will seem to feel that we have done all we can and that God's will, will be done?
