This is important. Drop what youre doing. Pack the car, get on a plane, a train, a bus or start walking. Our troops need your support right now! Theyre laying it on the line for us overseas and all they are seeing in the media is hundreds of thousands of anti-war/anti-American demonstrators marching in our streets.
As evidenced by this article Anti-war Protests Anger U.S. Troops Inside Kuwait those demonstrations are starting to affect morale. You can do something about that, but it will take time, effort and sacrifice -- a modest sacrifice compared to our men and women in uniform waiting for the the word to take out Saddam and his tyrannical terrorist regime.
The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic urges all FReepers and lurkers in good standing, as well as their friends and families, veterans and their friends and families and all others who want to stand up for America and support our troops to join us in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, March 1, 2003 for the Patriots Rally for America IV from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m at the outdoor Sylvan Theater on the grounds of the Washington Monument.
As the United States prepares to take the next step in the war on terrorism with probable action in Iraq, it is imperative that we get out and show support for our troops, our Commander-in-Chief and all thats good about America.
Our troops are there to give their lives if necessary in order to prevent another 9-11 from happening to us. Now more than ever, they need to see your support back home. Please dont let them down.
We are asking you to bring large American and Gadsden flags. Also, signs bearing messages supporting America, our troops, our Commander-in-Chief and the war on terrorism.
That same day, anti-American leftists will be holding an "anti-war" rally and march in D.C. The "anti-war" rally, organized by IAC-A.N.S.W.E.R. , a front group for the communist World Workers Party, will be held on the Mall near the Capitol Building between 3rd Street and 7th Street, N.W. The organizers have permitted other sites as staging areas for many in their group to assemble and then march to the main event. Some of these staging areas include: Constitution Gardens by the Vietnam War Memorial, the Northeast quadrant of the Washington Monument, and Freedom Plaza at 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Another group has plans to assemble in the DuPont Circle area and march to Constitution Avenue, N.W. between 17th and 23rd Streets.
We do not expect any trouble from those groups. Law enforcement officers will be everywhere to keep the peace and ensure that everyones rights are respected.
As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for demonstrating will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no racism, no profanity, no threats, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.
When: Saturday, March 1, 2003 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., rain or shine.
Where: The Sylvan Theater, located on the south side of the Washington Monument grounds at Independence Avenue and 15th Street, S.W.

Rrrod, welcome to Free Republic! (Thanks again, Comwatch, for telling me about that Rally for America link.)
I'm listening, I'm right here! What do you need help with? We often have people come from out of town. Great that you're coming from North Carolina. I assume you mean you'd like driving directions? I'm pinging in this post a couple of others who often come from out of town in case they have guidance on the how-to-get-here point. But of course, once you get to DC, it's easy to *see* the Washington Monument.

Ok, sorry, "ping" means that I posted your request to others who drive in from elsewhere so that if you watch this thread, they should come and give you guidance shortly.
If you scrollupward in this thread, there's a good aerial view of the monument that shows the stage where we're having the rally nestled about some trees just southeast of the monument.
Lots of tourists come to town and there are lots of signs showing you the way, when you get to DC, to get to the monument. To park, you might try the area near 13th St. or 14th STreet and Independance. Someone said the Wyndham hotel at 14th & M (a nice hotel) has some discount $79/night rooms, if you need a place to stay.
Just whatever you need help with, click "reply" and ask us specifically and we'll chime right in and help. I live in DC so I'm *used* to helping tourists and I'm definitely eager to help you!

Most direct way is I-95 North to DC. When you get to Springfield VA look for signs to Whashington DC and I-395. Stay on I-395. When you see signs for "Crystal City" or the "Pentagon", you're damn close. Start looking for signs for the 14th Street you'll cross the Potomac. Stay left and you should be on 14th Street. The US Mint is right there. You should be able to make a left at Independence which is the 2nd Stop light and first cross street. If not you can turn left at the next light and loop back to Independence. We'll be on the South side of the Monument. If you take a right ath the first taffic light after you come off the 14th street bridge there is a parking lot on at the end of that street. If you are coming from Charlottesville you can come up I-81 and head east on I-66. I-66 ends on Constitution Avenue. Stay on Constitution to the Washington Monument. Hang a right after you pass it.

Will someone be posting a Live thread Saturday?
To: Aquamarine
This is getting pretty huge. Kristinn will probably arrange for someone non-local to take some cellphone calls. The brutal truth: frankly that's not even on our radar screen yet. We're doing a lot of radio/press/leafletting work right now. So typically yes, but in the current priority list, not near the top now.

Listen to me in the above post, LOL! I reread it and it sounds like *I'm* doing all this work. Sorry. Hey, I know you're busy, but Aquamarine asks in the above about a live thread. Do you want me to fish for volunteers for that and get that handled for you?

FREEP THIS, a Washington Post "live online" discussion where they're giving free broadband to publicize the lefties' "virtual march" today. We're planning a whole rally Saturday and they're not giving us advanced coverage, but the the lefties are sending emails today and that's being covered!!? You can post comments/queries from the website: tell them about our Saturday rally (time and location too) and ask, ask why that's not getting advanced coverage too:
