I don't get a kick out of taking Bush to task on this. It seems to me it's a black and white issue. Evidently the President disagrees. I happen to believe that this issue strikes at the core of true conservatives like none other, especially in light of 09/11. I did not vote for Bush. I'm not saying right now that I wouldn't in the future. I can tell you I won't if he opens the borders, and it's pretty obvious that's were he intended to go.

I know. I think he's doing a pretty good job on other areas, but this one particular issue is so critical! When our own people are taking up arms to defend our borders, there is something very, very wrong. If Bush doesn't change his position on this, and fast, I won't vote for him next time, either.

In fairness, I'm withholding my judgement on that until later. I do have reservations but I am willing to be swayed if he'll bother to make an attempt. So far he hasn't.

As am I. I am even willing to accept incremental movements towards closing the border, such as starting to enforce the laws making it illegal to hire illegal aliens. A pronouncement that the mexican ID card (matriculada?) is unacceptable in the US would also be a step in the right direction.

I haven't seen anything hopeful, and I am frustrated.

I'll bet you a dollar to a donut that if states called out their national guard, Bush would nationalize them and order them to stand down.

That's because the National is federal. Texas and maybe a couple of other states have a STATE guard that answers only to the governor.

I'm not going to argue with you because you may be right. My understanding is that Governors are free to use these federal reserves. In time of national disaster they frequently call them out. It is only in the instance of a conflict of policies that the President will step in and nationalize their services in any given instance. For instance, when George Wallace stood in the door of the school in Alabama and forbid the Black kids to pass, Kennedy nationalized those troops and told them to get those kids into the schools by force if necessary.

I live in Sonoita Az.,not too far from Tombstone. These freaking wetbacks and drug runners are really a problem. They wreck fences, kill people's dogs (not mine because MINE are pits) and ruin livestock, AND start huge fires! My husband is a mexican american and he HATES wetbacks as do alot of mexican americans. Reason? They ALL think that if we have it(homes,jobs vehicles) that we're all rich and give it to them.I've lived here 25 years and it's almost always the same.It's OUR country, not theirs, so to heck with them.

Not trying to argue here at all. It's just that Texas has a special State Guard in addition to the National and Air National Guard. The difference is that they cannot be federalized without the consent of the Governor and the General in charge of the 5 Brigades in the state is appointed by him as well.

Bingo! All of a sudden the 4 amigos are aware that there's a problem on the borders.

They can't put their finger on what exactly that problem is, but they're unanimous that whatever it is, it's being exacerbated by all of these misguided, American citizens that won't be patient while they study it some more.

As much as you're on FR it's hard to believe that you've missed Michelle Malkin. She has gained stature as an FR pinup girl equal to that of Ann Coulter; not an easy act to follow. LOL! I'm glad the militias are getting the word out. I think the majority of Americans will side with the militias if the gov't decides to take action (of any kind) against them. The gov't knows that most Americans agree with what the militias are trying to accomplish. The question is, are they going to try to fight us over it?

They can call themselves a "militia" all they want but they are not a Militia in the constitutional sense because they lack both the state and national sanction of being called up by either governmental body.

"Militia" is probably the best word to describe what these groups are......and aren't the citizens somewhat of a govorning body anyway? After all, it is "we the people" and not "the government or state the people".

It is laid out clearly in the constitution. I know a lot of people overlook that little inconvenience but it is there in black and white. One of the first actions of the founders was to bring the militia under federal control to be used to quell attempted revolutions of which they knew something about. I don’t know what to call these guys other than “dead meat” the moment they step over the line from observers to assuming some type of police powers on their own.

One of the president's first responsibilities is to protect the country from invasion. He's not doing it. Blame him, not the guys that are trying to do a job that he refuses to do.
