Critical Election Day Ballot Security Issues
In the 2000 election, questions of voter fraud by our opponents arose across the country. Because of this, we are making it our job to ensure that our opponents dont get away with ANYTHING on Election Night 2002. That is why we are asking our County Coordinators in West Virginia to do two very specific things in addition to the normal all-day operations of our Republican poll-watchers:
1. Legally, it is necessary that one specific individual in every precinct in the State from each of the two major parties be tasked to accompany the ballot box between the Polling Place and the CourthouseNEVER letting the ballot box out of their sight. However, experience tells us that in many cases Republican officials have been derelict in this duty--allowing Democrat officials to take the box to the Courthouse unaccompanied. To remedy this, we are asking that each County Coordinator task one reliable individual to:
a) talk to all of the Republican Precinct Poll Workers before Election Day to remind them that no ballot box can go out of the polling place to the Courthouse without escort by a Republican, and
b) that this same individual station themselves at the Courthouse on Election Night with a checklist--to ensure that a Republican shows up with each and every precinct ballot box. Any precinct that does not have a Republican escort should immediately be suspect and open to possible challenge.
2. We are asking our County Coordinators to task one highly competent and reliable individual with a video camera and a tripod to set up in the tabulation area of each and every Courthouse in the Stateand to leave the tape rolling from beginning to end of the tabulation process. Past history would indicate that the Democrats who run many of the tabulation operations in many of the Courthouses have allowed the tabulation areas to turn into a party atmosphere, creating a climate that is open to abuse of the counting process. Our experience also is that the presence of a running camera almost automatically creates a serious and secure environment for this most critical of processes.
This same individual, or the County Coordinator, should inform Courthouse officials and/or law enforcement before Election Daymaking sure they understand that it is legal and right for us to do so.

illegal for poll workers to ask for an ID Sounds like institutional voter fraud to me.
To: TheGrimReaper
Actually, voting in Colorado seemed to be incredibly above board with all parties making an effort to educate voters and election days generally went off without a hitch. After years of voting there I was in no way prepared for the level of fraud and corruption that is so evident here in the state of Arkansas, where technically, poll workers are required to ask for ID's although I am told that they seldon do. It seems that confusion is the rule that keeps Rats calling the shots at many levels and obstacles to clearing up that confusion are many. There was much I didn't like about Colorado, but elections and the networking of information and the availability of candidates to the electorate have all contributed to making the voting experience there a much more positive one than I perceive it to be here or other places and I think judging by some of the quality individuals who serve as elected officials in the state of Colorado, the results speak for themselves.

Dimocrats may be wrong on most of the issues, but they darn well know how to
steal run an election.
On 12/1/01, Houston had a run-off election for Mayor, with Clinton lackey Lee Brown being closely contested by a repub ex-councilman, Orlando Sanchez. The race was extremely tight all night as results trickled in.
Finally, just after midnight, a woman sauntered into the county ballot tabulation center with the LAST outstanding ballot box...naturally from a dimocrat precinct.
Lee Brown retained his job by an approx. 0.5% margin.
Odd thing was, that NOBODY seemed the least bit curious as to the location of that last ballot box for 5+ HOURS, or as to who had custody of that box for those 5+ hours.
Some elections just don't pass the "smell test".

Good comments, Elkiejg. Another Freeper pointed out that standardized machines are really NOT a good idea...easier for Dems to cheat. Having 67 counties in Florida with a variety of machines...64 of which have few problems on election day...is a safeguard for law-abiding citizens.
Florida has clear rules and regs. for SOEs and election personnel, and for voters. The SOE's job is to make sure these rules are followed, workers are trained, voters are familiar with all aspects of the election....and that people are available to answer questions. Broward's primary was a mess...and a case can be made that it was a calculated mess...to assure a Reno loss.
SOE Oliphant knew of the problems long before election day, fired experienced workers and hired pals, refused help from the state weeks before the primaries, couldn't be contacted throughout the day....and then we get a threat from Alcee Hastings (who publicly stated he wanted Reno to lose) that if Gov. Bush dares to fire the irresponsible Ms. Oliphant he'll cry "racism."
What a low bunch of characters these career, corrupt Dem. politicians in Fla.

Check out the laws, have the camera, have a cell phone, and go with in with at least two people.
Also, make sure the ballot box gets from the voting place to the courthouse, wether going in the car or following them. And have somebody at the courthouse to make sure everything goes smooth when they arrive and when the counting starts.

Yea, I agree but tell that to the Dems. Then we need to get some laws changed and also recruit College Republicans.

follow up bump
To: Avoiding_Sulla
Yep, I forgot that Dems work harder (it seems to me)
at election jobs.
However, I want someone to give me a logical reason
why a volunteer poll worker can not sign on for a half
shift of 6- 8 hours? My precinct usually has about 4 or
5 workers. Would it be to hard too accomplish a shift
change? I think they'd get a lot more volunteers - that they are always begging for.
Am I the only one that thinks that only anal Dems hover over a hot polling place all day?

Looks like our local voting system is well-regulated. Everybody watches and the poll workers are very careful. Counting is automatic, but the ballots are very clear and are marked by hand. Cheating would be nearly impossible, probably because we in the community are always alert to the possibility.
To: EternalVigilance
Well this plan will certainly get plenty of press attention on election day. Think of the TV values of filming Pubbies filming voters. It will give the talking heads something to talk about for hours.

You're wise to keep your campaign under the radar. If they poll or your efforts are too visible, the RATS may spend more money on attack ads and put more muscle in the voter fraud.
Good luck!

Re working all day, I believe the reason is to prevent a type of cheating that could occur if a partisan came in after the polls were open.
In Maryland, we are not allowed to leave to polls for any reason. We bring lots of snacks and drinks, or have family deliver food. It is a long day, but it moves along quickly, and reconciling the ballots, lists of votes cast, and record of the 'voting machine' (optical scanner) progresses smoothly.
Also,
If shifts of workers were allowed, then the reconciling of the tallies might be impossible, as in: "It didn't happen when I was there, it must have been the other guys fault."

Thank you for the bump, my friend!
If this is going to happen around the country, it will be because FReepers made it happen.
Thanks for all you're doing.

"I ask because here in TX, I've seen folks walk in vote without showing any ID at all" No ID checks while voting in California either.
Do you have to show an ID in any state??? I wish they did here, it only makes sense.

Thanks for the ping.
I don't think this will be an issue in my county, we have strong Repub representation.
I don't know if they let you volunteer to work in polls outside your county.
