Democrats Are Trying to Neutralize Gun Supporters

Phil Brennan, NewsMax.com
Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002

Democrats are beginning to understand that being anti-gun can cost gun control advocates an election, a lesson learned the hard way by Al Gore in the 2000 elections when gun owner’s opposition cost him enough votes to hand George Bush his victory. Gore they note, even lost his home state of Tennessee largely on the gun issue.

As a result of this sudden revelation, Democrat candidates are trying their best to show that they are as quick on the draw when it comes to supporting Second Amendment gun rights as their Republican opponents, according to the New York Times.

And shocked gun control supporters are trying to convince Democrats that the tide has not turned against them, falling back on their now discredited claim that most gun ownership advocates are a small minority composed largely of what they see as poor white males living in an unsophisticated rural America.

It’s a tactic that’s clearly not working.

I don't care about the gun issue myself, but I haven't detected much of a neutralization effect in this neighborhood from the gun folks. Maybe they are just too demanding.

Sanchez (Dim running for Texas governor) has been blanketing the state with signs saying "Sportsmen for Sanchez" with a rifle logo on them.

Talk is cheap. I have yet to see or hear of a Democrat that I would trust to support the second amendment. There are some who will say they support the second, but press them hard on the issue and you will usually find out what their true colors are. You also need to look at who they surround themselves with, often they look pro-gun but the aide whispering in their ear is hard anti-gun.

The idiot Dems lost the House in 94, primarily because of the "assult rifle" ban. And they're just now figuring out they need to drop the anti-gun platform?

dolts.

Fakes. That's how Governer Warner won my state, VA, duping conservatives into voting for him. We need to dig up their gun control records. Freegards....

Rep. Thune Instrumental in Passing Improved Armed Pilots Bill

-- Sen. Johnson Refuses to Support Senate Bill

Springfield, Virginia 22151
703-321-8585 / FAX: 703-321-8408

(Friday, July 12, 2002) -- South Dakota Rep. John Thune was instrumental in getting a meaningful armed pilots bill passed in the House of Representatives this week.
The original bill would have applied to only 2% of the pilots and would have been in effect for just two years. Rep. Thune, along with Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR) offered an amendment to eliminate the 2% cap and make the program permanent. The amendment passed 250-175.

A similar bill, S. 2554, has been introduced in the Senate, though South Dakota Senator Tim Johnson refuses to cosponsor the measure.

The Senate bill, sponsored by pro-gun Senator Bob Smith (R-NH), currently has 14 cosponsors. Action on the measure could occur before the August recess.

ACTION: Please contact Rep. John Thune and thank him for taking the lead in strengthening the armed pilots bill. You can reach him by e-mail at jthune@mail.house.gov jthune@mail.house.gov or by phone at 202-225-2801.

IOWA SENATE: Ganske Jumps the Gun

Gun owners are an important voting bloc in Iowa, and Republican Rep. Greg Ganske is looking for an edge wherever he can find one in his bid to unseat Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin. National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston urged voters to support "the good guys" in 2002 at a recent GOP political event in Des Moines. The Ganske campaign touted the remark as an endorsement, though an NRA spokesman said no endorsement was given.
A recent Des Moines Register poll shows Harkin continues to lead Ganske, but the incumbent's advantage is down from 23 points in December to just nine now. However, Harkin's 1996 reelection followed a similar pattern, and he still enjoys a high favorability rating among Iowans.

Why should American gun folks be neutral? Our founding fathers were blessed by God when they wrote our Second Amendment. And why did they do it? To protect Americans from their own government. Unarmed American citizens are sitting ducks. And guns are certainly useful in preventing crime. We live in central New York State and most folks have guns. The result is we live in a crime-free zone - I mean it - the major crimes are drunk driving and bad checks. And I feel very sorry for our British friends across the pond. If what I read about crime in England is true, the poor British cannot even carry a knife to defend themselves and the crime rate is very high and the only ones being punished are the British folks who are defending themselves with knives, sticks and stones, when they are not being murdered.

The Dims don't really have anything to worry about. All they have to do to neutralize the alleged Republicans is to send a gun control bill to the White House. Bubba-2 will sign int into law, giving the leftie Dims all the political cover they need.

What a bunch of political whores... pathetic.

Goober always ran and got elected to both Congress and the Senate as a rabid believer in the 2nd Amendment. He didn't discover he loved gun control until he became Bubba-1's sidekick. This is why he lost Tennessee.

The idiot Dems lost the House in 94, primarily because of the "assult rifle" ban.

Bush-1 and Bob Dolt also lost to Bubba-1 for that very same reason. Bush-1 is the one who used executive orders to create the magazine bans, bans on importing surplus military weapons (even American M-1 Garands coming back!,and closed the machine gun list. I think it can be safely said that he was the original prominent politician pushing for the future ban on so-called "Assault Weapons". Bob Dolt lost because he refused to allow the repeal of the AWB to come up for vote in the Senate, even after it passed in the House, and there were enough Senate votes to pass it. Dolt didn't want to take a chance on losing any of the gun-grabber votes, and thought he would get the votes of the gun owners regardless.

All DemoRATS hate gun owners. Vote Republican!!

Colorado (D) governor Roy Romer was a gun grabber, but couldn't and didn't pass any gun control in the (R) led house during his entire multi-term career. But when Backdoor Bill Owens (R) was elected on a pro-2A platform, he was able to veto shall issue just like Romer, and he was signature #1 on the gun grabbing Amendment 22 ballot initiative, which "closed" the gun-show "loophole" statewide in CO.

So with respect to protecting gun rights by electing R's, your mileage may vary.
