[history]
At first, it seemed like debris. Large objects were falling from the top of the World Trade Center's north tower, just a few minutes after American Airlines Flight 11 hit.
"It took three or four to realize: They were people," says James Logozzo, who had gathered with co-workers in a Morgan Stanley boardroom on the 72nd floor of the south tower, just 120 feet away from the north tower. "Then this one woman fell."

I'm saying that although this forum has good news and a lot of interesting discussion it also has its fair share of really stupid people who classify the whole world into EITHER liberals or conservative, EITHER democrats or republicans, and use any kind of news item to bash "liberals"--whatever those are.
And its really sophomoric and annoying. Why not actually make intelligent COMMENTS on the news at hand, rather than just reverting to some kind of reflex comment that can be used at any and all times "oh yeah, it's those liberals, it's all their fault, and they're all wrong and all stupid and they screwed up everything." It's so silly. Most of do think for ourselves and agree with some things our leaders do and disagree with others.
As for agreeing with you, I'm simply saying that very few people in America opposed our response at the time, although (and justifiably, I think) much criticism has been levelled at America here and abroad over this administration taking things way too far--and in fact Bush has had to respond to the outrage and adjust some of his stances recently. Which is good. And of course he's got an administration that is fighting viciously among itself--but that's not something that gets discussed here much. And it's just proof that individuals are individuals and within a party or an administration there is always a lot of disagreement.

Whoops! I meant to quote you saying this:
This article does a good service in reminding those of us who promised never to forget what really happened.
Shalom.

and use any kind of news item to bash "liberals"--whatever those are. Liberals are people who want to scrap tradition and long-held knowledge about how society works for the sake of trying something new and untested. Socialists are one kind of liberal. They are the worst kind because socialism has actually been tested and proven worthless, but the American socialists think we can do it better.
I'm sure that's not a dictionary definition, but it will do.
Shalom.

I think want to put individuals into easily defined boxes like "liberal" or conservative". I agree with you that most people do not fit into those boxes.
"...although (and justifiably, I think) much criticism has been levelled at America here and abroad over this administration taking things way too far--and in fact Bush has had to respond to the outrage and adjust some of his stances recently."
Here's where I disagree with you. The outraged ones did not see people jumping out of buildings because insane terrorists decided to kill them. Most of these people who are against any sort of military response would describe themselves as a "liberal".
Therefore, my comment is correct.
I, for one, think Bush is not going far enough. We've seen the worst foreign attack on our nation ever and there's been no formal declaration of war from congress. In addition to Iraq, we should take out the governments of Iran, Syria, and Saudi Arabia. All of the Al-Qaeda / Muslim Extremist supporting governments have to go, or there will be more attacks. Without unconditional surrender a la Germany and Japan from all Islamofascist governments we will see another attack.

That rant came not a minute too soon. Just look at some of the responses on
THIS THREAD. It could make you physically ill. Someone, please tell me these idiots are "only" paid Saudi and Iraqi shills, and NOT purported members of our own conservative community!
If this kind of thinking is what we get from the Libertarians (whom I used to like), they need to go away.
It's exactly what I was referring to. And it's just as ugly and insulting.

Martin & Appy...You both could be right. There were several women who were full term pregnant. Perhaps one gave birth in the 102 minutes before building fell. I recall reading one firefighter's story about finding a pair of newborn feet. Could also have been something horribly different like spontaneous expulsion from birth canal or womb.

I'm not normally religous.. But those faces in the smoke and debris (there are many) are unlike anything you see in volcanoes or other natural forces. There was real evil that day. islam. I truly believe that the demons of this religion came forth in pride and pleasure that day, and made their presence seen.. The sheer magnitude of the event and horror of it all summoned, something..

What it summoned, at least for me, was righteous rage and anger, which has not subsided in the least. It's probably a good thing I'm not the President. By now the Middle East would be a barren wasteland occupied only by VERY fat buzzards, sprinkled with American-flagged oil wells with heavily armed guards.
I'll never forget the afternoon of Black Tuesday, as I watched my wife, with tears flowing from her green eyes, wracked by sobs as she covered all the mirrors in our house as a form of mourning. She looked at me (I was still wearing my uniform) and said, "It's up to you guys, now. This can't happen again". I swore I'd do everything I could, in my limited way. That vow is as serious to me as my wedding vows.

It wasn't religious nuts. It was Muslim extremists.I'll go you one better: It was carried out by Muslim extremists but it was financed, encouraged, excused, and approved by Muslims all over the world. Not extremist Muslims. Muslims.

Thank you for the bump.
I have never been more serious about anything in my life. The anti-American, anti-western jihad will not go away, it cannot be appeased; it cannot be threatened or bribed. It must be met head-on and physically destroyed or it will destroy US.

See my comments at 133:
If Islamic leaders do not agree with these lunatics then they should be leading the charge to rid this world of these extremist who have commandeer their faith and are turning it to evil acts in the name of the Almighty. They must join us in this fight; they must lead it in their countries.
If they refuse to actively participate in the eradication of the combatants, then they are supporting them and they too should be considered the enemy an eliminated.

I think we all know, and this is the most painful part, that we won't do a damn thing about islam until it's way too late. Even then, I'd be stunned that we ever retaliate properly.
The real tragedy of 9/11 is that we won't avenge these deaths. They died in vain, for the most part.
You can see it in the media, in the leftist protests of any retaliation.. We're doomed.

My wife and I were at The Tattered Cover last nite, a large independent book store in Denver, and there was a display of books, largely photographic, about the 9-11 atrocity (It was not a "tragedy." A deadly hurricane is a "tragedy." This was an atrocity.) It was amazing how the "powers that be" have already bowdlerized our collective memory of 9-11. There was not one picture of the planes crashing into the buildings, no pictures of jumpers, no pictures of bodies landing. We need to see those images to remind us of the nature of the evil that we face.
