May 30, 2002 -- Frustrated cops in New York had to free a suspicious gang of illegal Mideast aliens because the INS "didn't want to be bothered" on the Memorial Day weekend, The Post has learned.
In the end, not knowing whether the men they had nabbed were the hard-working immigrants they claimed to be or a terror gang plotting to wreak havoc, the local authorities had to let them walk.

Fair enough .. all that we Bushbots ask is that your argument/disagreements be factual and try to keep an open mind when we try to present our disagreement with some of your points without being called a neocon
Believe it or not .. on many issues we may agree .. but maybe not agree on the where the fault lies or the solution to that problem
So why don't we all be problem solvers and figure out what's wrong with the INS (and that's pretty obvious) figure out a plan on what needs fixing and DO IT. No BS, no blame, just action. And it's the "action" part that's severely lacking with any reforms in the INS. When are they going to begin? So far, all I've seen is vague proposals, and that's not enough for me.
Also I NEVER said that Bush shouldn't fix the INS .. what I DID say was that maybe we should give him a chance to fix problems that were YEARS in the making before he ever took office
We are surrounded by Clinton appointees. From Ruddy today
Once again, you're shifting blame. This is now in Bush's lap--that's why we change presidents every four to eight years. And it's been eight and a half months since 9/11 and some of us--at least I am--are getting damn impatient.
The last straw for me was when Mohammed Atta and his pal got their student visas six months after 9/11 the BS excuse that I heard coming from that department was that 1) the workers for the subcontractors were either illiterate or couldn't speak English and just rubber-stamped the visas or 2) the subcontractors didn't recognize their names & it was an honest mistake. It was just crap, just plain old crap and spin. Just for once, I'd like to hear from the INS, "We screwed up." But the same Reno/Meissner mentality still infects that department and Ziglar is waaay out of his league. What were his qualifications anyway? As far as I know, he didn't have any. And his plans for cleaning up the department? None.
Things changed radically on 9/11--at least everywhere but the INS. And changes in that department are long overdue. If it means Ziglar has to go and be replaced with someone with an idea for reform, renovation and innovation in his head, so be it. But just DO SOMETHING. And do it NOW.
I am NOT shifting the blame .. I AM JUST STATING THE FACTS
Yes the INS is one F'd up Agency .. and YES there needs to a good skake up over there
AND from the news reports Bush was pretty pissed off when he read in the papers about that visa approval
There are many reasons why the INS is so screwed up but I won't bore you with the facts because you don't care
To quote my father (and this is one of the few that can be posted to FR), fish or cut bait.
Ok .. I'll bite .. how exactly would you clean up the HUGE mess
Tonight - 6 & 11 PM Pacific - 9 Eastern - Fox News Channel Hannity and Colmes will discuss: I.N.S.ULT Frustrated cops in New York had to free a suspicious gang of illegal Mideast aliens because the INS "didn't want to be bothered" on the Memorial Day weekend...
Your comment reminds me of an old story about the guy back in the thirties who expressed the same thought. He searched long and hard to find a place nobody had ever heard of, where he could go to get away from the evils of the world, and chose......Guadalcanal.
There's no place to hide, well maybe Mars.
Up till now, he has been discussing the "new" FBI!
"Borders ... Language ... Culture."

Tancredo is the only Congressman who seems to get it.
I would like to propose an alternate solution. I am not a legal expert, and would like everyone's feedback on it.
If the Feds are unwilling to enforce the INS laws, can't the states do it? I don't know of anything preventing a state from having laws prohibiting aliens from carrying false identification or of entering the state without proper immigration papers. They could imprison the perps or escort them out of the state or out of the country.
Heck, there may be some such laws on the books.
There are lots of instances of states having laws that have duplicates in the Federal legal system. It is illegal to possess marijuana in most every state, as well as in the US.
So what do you think? Would this be a way of protecting the people of each state and perhaps shaming the Feds into protecting the borders of this nation?
And this information about law enforcement agencies REFUSING to make arrests is disgusting.
I was unaware states could enforce INS laws. Can they also make duplicate laws, so they could try these in their jurisdictions?
Maybe the unexploded ordnance left over would keep the busybodies away.
