Hurricane Helene survivors still waiting to see FEMA in hard-hit North Carolina
The Washington Times ^ | Thursday, October 3, 2024 | Jeff Mordock

A week after Hurricane Helene made its deadly, destructive landfall and swept across the interior Southeast, the storm’s victims say they still haven’t seen much help from the Biden-Harris administration.

“I haven’t seen any federal folks. I haven’t seen FEMA or local emergency crews. It’s just neighbor helping neighbor,” said North Carolina state Rep. Donnie Loftis told The Washington Times.

Mr. Loftis, a Republican, was delivering much-needed supplies on Thursday to a local church in Hendersonville, which sits about 30 minutes north of Asheville, in one of the hardest hit areas in the state. He said the church is providing supplies, water, and pet food to those impacted by the storm.

Those supplies, Mr. Loftis said, came from nearby churches that rose to the occasion, not the state or federal government.

“I think it is insufficient,” he said. “People say they’ve seen nothing from the federal government out here. It’s just neighbor helping neighbor.”

The death toll from the hurricane now tops 200 people, and about a third of those are in North Carolina.

In addition to supplies, Mr. Loftis said the church is giving out hot dogs cooked on a grill because it has no power. The hot dogs are the only warm meal some of the affected have eaten all week.

“In times of destruction and tragedy, Americans show their resilience,” he said. “They’re here, helping each other, providing to each other in their time of need. We don’t ask, ’Are you a Republican or are you a Democrat?’ We just ask, ’What do you need? How can I help?’”

He said he was frustrated with the federal response and particularly bothered that neither President Biden nor Vice President Harris was in Washington as the storm battered North Carolina. Mr. Biden was at his beach house in Delaware, and Ms. Harris...

They are "Staged" in Chapel Hill, holding strategy meetings at the Hyatt and in the field at the Starbucks, Caribou, Panera, a few blocks from the hotel.

We all know what and who these bureaucrats are. We also know their track record. Last I saw they have contracted the leftist group "World Kitchen" to feed them. The ones that feed Hamas in Gaza, headquartered out of Washington DC.

FEMA allegedly raised weapons at “unauthorized” entities trying to deliver aid earlier today.

If true, they sure seem to want a shootin’ war.

They have no interest in helping Americans...

A couple of posts that may illuminate the problem...

At choir practice tonight I learned that our church approved a $3,000 donation to the NC Hurricane Relief Effort.

FEMA is no where to be seen. Zero.

They must all be at the television station in Asheville talking about what good they are doing and how they are handing out water to people there. They are not here where the damage is. Some electrical repair people are at distant major roads trying to get power back on. Other than that, people are trying to help one another. Our neighbor lost ALL his hay for the winter. What is he going to do? What will he use for feed? It’s been devastating. The government has no interest in helping rural white people.

I heard a group of private citizens have been using their helicopters to get medicine and food to people in remote regions. Others are using mules to carry food and water. The state and federal government are doing nothing and there are already looters. You’ll never know if looters come to our area.

What does that mean? There are so many trying to help! I think there should be a centralized entity , sort of like a Clearing House to allocate resources. Some double dip. Some get nothing. I wish good stewardship were available

"FEMA allegedly raised weapons at “unauthorized” entities trying to deliver aid earlier today."

I just saw this being reported by AF Retired Brig.Gen. Blaine Holt, on Newsmax Prime News, and he reported it as you said, that FEMA personnell(?) raised their guns on citizens who were trying to bring supplies to flood victims. I think that that amounts to an treasonous act of war, and should be dealt with accordingly. In my humble opinion, acting president biden and harris and mayorcas are also guilty of treason.

Walmart, Home Depot and Lowe’s have massive distribution systems.

Walmart probably contracts for food and bottled water weeks in advance. It will get trucked in by them.

Home Depot and Lowe’s have probably rerouted planned shipments and the plywood and other building goods are on trucks and trains rolling towards the Piedmont.

Amazon will ship tarps from probably as far away as California. In a few days.

If contractors have to be licensed, expect problems in getting one. Tarps were on roofs more than six months after Hurricane Ian hit my part of Florida.

Some people (about 20% of those impacted hard) will really need the $750 payments I’ve read here about. My local Lowe’s has a sign offering whole roof tarping for $500.

Verrry interesting reports on how FEMA is intentionally sabotaging emergency assistance to those ravaged by national emergencies:

Areas hard-hit by hurricanes are sometimes sealed off a few days until people that have fled hundreds of miles are likely to be back in town.

Remember the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence.

We may be at the point of needing “to alter or to abolish it”.

Bloomberg: Baxter’s North Cove Plant In North Carolina Closed As Helene Damages Inventory
Baxter International Inc. has closed its biggest manufacturing facility after it was damaged when Hurricane Helene ripped through the US Southeast, causing widespread power outages and flooding. Baxter’s North Cove plant, located in Marion, North Carolina, is the largest manufacturer of intravenous and peritoneal dialysis solutions in the country. The disruption is expected to negatively impact the company’s financial results, according to a statement it released Sunday. (Muller, 9/30)

Axios: Hurricane Sends New Shudders Through Health Supply Chain
A Baxter International plant responsible for making IV fluids for most U.S. hospitals is among the major casualties from Hurricane Helene. The closure illustrated yet again how taking a single plant offline can trigger a domino effect felt around the world. “It’s a very serious situation,” said Allan Coukell, chief government affairs officer for the hospital-owned drugmaker Civica Rx, which is addressing supply chain constraints within its consortium of health system and pharma members. (Reed, 10/1)
