Many Americans do not plan to enjoy a summer vacation in President Joe Biden’s America, a Fox News poll found in May, underscoring the economy as the number one 2024 issue for voters.
The Fox News poll found:
Of the 55 percent who are not taking a summer vacation, 73 percent do not have enough money to do so. Seventy-two percent said higher prices impact their summer plans. Fifteen percent do not have time and must remain focused on the daily grind. The last time a pollster asked Americans this question, in 2010, of those who were not going on vacation, only 51 percent cited a lack of cash, while 20 percent blamed a lack of time, Fox

I still remember the book “How to Lie with Statistics”.
Just change “statistics” with “Polls”.
This is something people remember.
This is why we have a travel trailer and an extensive group of friends with driveways to park in. From Montana, to Idaho to Ocean Shores here in Washington. You don’t need airline tickets and fancy hotels to have a GREAT vacation. I personally would rather park in a friends driveway with great beach access than get a hotel.
Sleep away camps are also crazy expensive. My parents paid $450 for 7 weeks of camp in the late 70s. Now some parents I spoke to say it can often cost $4000!
Oh well the hedonic adjustment to glamping Wii hugely offset any price increases. A nice safari tent in Africa is $1000-$2000 per person per night or more, transportation costs extra.
Well done on your part. Always wanted to travel that way, but never got around to it. Sigh.
At this point, though, I’m content to sit on my porch and catch up on my reading. The fridge, lav, etc. are all within a short walk :)
Our monthly mortgage payment is about $1000 a month, and we’re paying the whole thing off this month, so I guess we’ll be pretty far ahead of the African tent rental cost.
We only have white tail deer, raccoons, coyotes, skunks, possums, groundhogs, rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, various birds, and an occasional bobcat in these parts. Nothing exotic, but very, very American heartland. Once I saw a weasel or something related crawling through my yard, but haven’t seen one since.
No bears, no alligators, so it works for me.
Black Hills in South Dakota or Door County, WI. Both very nice in September, and summer crowds are gone. Grand Canyon was certainly worth seeing, and we stayed on the south rim 2 nights. Take a train? Amtrak has some cool tours, and there are some intriguing river cruises.

Congratulations on paying off your mortgage! Great accomplishment!
I bet a internet betting site could.
Thank you! Been working on this for goal for many, many years! Still have property taxes to pay, but this part being finished is great!
Paid off my FRM in 1Q 2014 and paid off the last car loan in 2Q 2024.
