Now-former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was stripped of his gavel on Tuesday afternoon via roll-call vote on Rep. Matt Gaetz's (R-FL) motion to vacate the chair, pursuant to rules agreed to by McCarthy in order to clinch victory in his drawn-out race to become speaker in January.
By a vote of 216 to 210, the historic motion prevailed as presiding Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR) declared "the resolution is adopted...the office of Speaker of the House of the United States House of Representatives is hereby declared vacant."
The Republicans joining Gaetz in his motion to vacate were Reps. Biggs (AZ), Buck (CO), Burchett (TN), Crane (AZ), Good (VA), Mace (SC), Rosendale (MT

Got to look at the big picture. This is bad optics
my sheeple Idaho CONgressmen will do what the party tells them to do, even if they tell them to drop their pants and bend over a table in a prison yard. guaranteed spineless suckasses.
Trump! Trump for Speaker!
The House is the one that writes the laws, the one in control of the Money.
Put Trump in there..
Let him clean up House for a year and then put him as President.. Buaahahha
Just look at who got nominated after Bush 1: Dole. Bush 2. McCain. Romney. It's pretty obvious who runs the 'conservative' party and what they stand for.
McCarthy now knows he cannot use the same old excuses for running business as usual. He didn’t keep his promises, the ones he made to get the job. That is non performance in any business contract. He would be fired if he was a house builder, or engineering firm, etc...
The problem will be to get someone astute enough to navigate the byzantine House, but push through real good change. Borders, crime, inflation, trans-insanity....anti business, getting climate change lunacy (while letting the Russians and Chinese, and Indians do what they want) out of there...
If he starts supporting those initiatives, he would win back some credibility...but he will need a real turnabout...to many golden parachutes for these legislators....
true...true
Some of you gripping over this is hilarious. Now what you ask? We’ve been asking that of the Republican Party for decades.
:)
There’s a list of interim people.
But....but.....Romney said he was “severely conservative”.
So why did the Democrats vote this way?
This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from the movie Cool Hand Luke, “What we have here is a failure to communicate.”
Yep. Most of them work for their wealthy donors and not those that elected them to the office in the first place. I hear it takes an enormous amount of money to pay for a campaign to get elected to congress. There are only two ways to get that money. From large donation wealthy donors or small donations from a lot of people. We see what the first way gets us. Time to give the second way a try.
Quick!
Quick!
Everyone to the ocean!
We have to find more pearls for the Democrat plants to clutch here on Free Republic!
You have to break some eggs...
Hannity is whining about it I think his side deal with bite-me about funding Ukraine was the last straw.
Perhaps Mr. McCarthy should have understood that occasionally, in D.C., you are held to keeping your promises.
Entrenched, career politicians seen to forget the a promise and a handshake are supposed to be taken very seriously.
I remember a (R) congressman from Fort Wayne, IN who PROMISED that he would only serve two terms. He was running for hid EIGHTH term when he got nailed schtupping a staffer.
.
He waits til he’s 58 or whatever to be a tough guy for the first time.
He told Gaetz to Go For it, turned out to be a mistake.
Loyal to Biden til the End.

Gingrich says House GOP should expel ‘anti-Republican’ Gaetz
Trump would have trouble as Speaker even with people who liked and supported him.
I’m a solid Trump supporter, but I know my man. He’s good at many things, but the qualities necessary to the Speaker’s job just aren’t in him. He’d alienate a lot of the people the position required him to schmooze. It would be a mess.
