Now-former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was stripped of his gavel on Tuesday afternoon via roll-call vote on Rep. Matt Gaetz's (R-FL) motion to vacate the chair, pursuant to rules agreed to by McCarthy in order to clinch victory in his drawn-out race to become speaker in January.
By a vote of 216 to 210, the historic motion prevailed as presiding Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR) declared "the resolution is adopted...the office of Speaker of the House of the United States House of Representatives is hereby declared vacant."

Because McCarthy offered far more power to the Freedom Caucus than pretty much anyone else would. He made the deal to allow one person to do what Gaetz did. The Democrats have nothing to lose by voting to vacate, so they did. Chances are that the House will now move left.

Bold dumb move. Reality far outweighs echo chambers. Our voting demographic is not fiscally centered, its basically 180 degrees out of phase as far as what is functionally sound society should be. As long as universal suffrage exists backed by a kakistocracy (A feature of universal suffrage mixed with democracy) we are on autopilot for implosion. Party boy messed up, all his friends in power now are democrats and only friends for a brief moment. People care more about Fantasy Football than what is going on.
