A Colorado Circle K employee is suing the company after she was fired for putting her hands on an armed thief that snatch a pack of cigarettes from behind the counter.
Mary Ann Moreno, 75, claims in her lawsuit against Circle K Stores, Inc. that she was wrongfully terminated from the Westminster store she had worked at for 18 years for her brief interaction with the criminal.
“I really did not think I would get fired for something like that. [Maybe] If I had chased him out the door or, you know, argued with him,” she told KDVR.
On Oct. 4, 2020, Moreno was behind the counter when Tyler Wimmer walked into the convenience store with a knife in one hand and a sealed package in the other that also contained a knife.
It’s not clear in surveillance footage obtained by KDVR whether or not he ever threatened Moreno with the knife, but Willmer did ask if she would give him a pack of cigarettes for free. Moreno declined, telling him she would get fired if she did.

It's the Wokey Way.
my son in law works at an antique store...he sees them take stuff...and knows he can’t do a thing.
Far lefties defending the thieving maggots. After all, it was just a pack of cigarettes. That’s no reason to touch a thieving, bottom feeding SCUMBAG.
I don’t agree, but I understand. Every company I ever worked for would have fired me if I suddenly brought attention to them. It doesn’t matter if the attention was good or bad. It’s that there was suddenly a narrative about them that they could not control. Companies are afraid of things they can’t control. Their instant reflex is to get rid of whatever caused that to happen.
I don’t mind if they steal something that can kill them.
After all, everyone knows smoking kills you anyways, so why bother stopping him?
More Korean merchants is the answer.
Every major retailer no matter what they sell have the same policy. I know a former outside salesman for Lowe’s Home Improvement that was a consistent million dollar producer that got fired for the exact same thing except the thief was rolling out of the store with power tools. Lawyers.
headline stinks... guy who got stabbed sues?
Firing her has brought even more attention to them, and negative attention at that!
I wonder if there is a retirement plan for those who work for them for 20 years or more...
Firings like this encourage more crime. They should be banned.
Ms Moreno has my respect for being 75 ,still working with the unpredictable public, still feeling that bond of loyalty to her store.
Bad news, she lost her job because of it. Good news, she didn’t lose her life or get beaten up for it.
Easily will be the worst written headline of the day.
Don’t interrupt the ferals getting their free stuff. You could get hurt.
Theft at retail stores is off the charts
Because it’s a RIGHT, don’tcha know
Soon, there won’t be anything LEFT for the thieves to steal
Because more and more stores are going to close
Be loyal to your employer as they are unto you.
Maybe they should stock explosive cigarettes, make the cycle shorter.
Now turning out to be prophetic on that part
That's the plan - nationalization. I see the building of mega-warehouses galore around here. My guess is make retail fail, then gov't takes over the distribution of goods.
