Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has been medically cleared to play football again after experiencing cardiac arrest during a game last season, the NFL team announced.
Brandon Beane, the team’s general manager, made the announcement on Tuesday, saying the second-year player met with three specialists during the offseason, and they came to an agreement he cleared the necessary protocols.
“They’re all in lockstep of what this was and that he has cleared to resume full activities, just like anyone else who was coming back from an injury or whatever,” Beane said during a press conference.
“So he’s … he’s fully cleared. He’s here, and he is of the mindset, he’s in a great headspace to come back in and make his return,” Beane added.

Today he said in his press conference the cause was commotio cordis
He already got my well wishes once. He’s on his own this time.
QB: I said go out for a long pass, not pass out!......................
I wish Damar all the best. I know he understands the power of prayer now if he didn’t before. I’m hoping he will be a positive Christian influence for those around him.
According to WebMD:
“Commotio cordis is an extremely dangerous condition and can lead to death. It’s the second leading cause of sudden cardiac death among athletes. If it occurs, CPR and medical attention are needed right away to restore the heartbeat as soon as possible or the odds of survival are very low.
“What Causes Commotio Cordis?
“The most common cause is an impact to the left side of your chest during a sports activity. ...””
I think the guy’s nuts to play again, but I don’t watch football and will once again miss it if he croaks or nearly croaks again.
He will die in the upcoming season and the news media will still not blame the deadly vaccine.
There was already too much BS with his handlers preventing him from discussing the possible cause. His deflection months ago to the effect of “I’d rather not say.” makes clear this was NOT a simple impact induced event.
Impact to the left side of the chest is the most common cause???
Holy Toledo. How often does impact to the left side of a chest happen in a football game??? With his risk factor, he’s taking a big chance.
Well, his choice to go back out there.
Not such a good idea...but he’ll make the history books.
His return to the game is Unexpected.
I hope he has a great year.
More likely myocarditis but they are covering it up. We all know why.
Doctors say he isn't at risk. It's just a very rare event that can happen if you are hit just right at a certain point in the cardiac rhythm, but very, very rarely occurs. Since every team has an MD and automated external defibrillator on the sideline, it is survivable. Without the AED, probably not.
Yet, when interviewed by Michael Strahan, he refused to answer the simple question of what caused the cardiac arrest. He paused, then refused to answer.
He should forget football and take up a safer sport like curling or Tiddlywinks
I wish him well.
I hope he has a good career in the NFL and a long life.
But if I was his insurance agent - I’d have to think about canceling him.
In the interview he pointedly said he wouldn’t answer what caused it.
