Republicans in chaos as Kevin McCarthy loses SECOND ballot for Speaker: GOP rebels refuse to back leader and throw their weight behind Jim Jordan with party in disarray on first day in the majority

The new House of Representatives gaveled into its first session on Tuesday

Nearly two dozen of Kevin McCarthy's fellow Republicans voted against his bid to be House Speaker in the first and second rounds

Voting is expected to continue until a Speaker candidate wins a majority

Nineteen Republican rebels have derailed House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy's second vote to become Speaker, throwing the party into chaos on their first day in the majority.

The group of dissenters are refusing to back McCarthy and instead threw their weight behind GOP Rep. Jim Jordan in the second ballot of the process that is leaving the start of Congress in limbo.

It is the first time in 100 years a Speaker has not been chosen in the first ballot. Now McCarthy, who can only afford to lose four votes out of the 222 Republican members, is facing an uphill battle to take over the gavel from Nancy Pelosi.

If the 19 Republicans stand firm in their opposition of McCarthy, the GOP will have to find another candidate or the leader will have to find another way to gain their support.

He has already given concessions, including the motion to vacate the chair, in an unsuccessful bid to win their backing after heated meetings and negotiations. Congress cannot start official business until a Speaker is elected

Jordan nabbed six GOP votes in the first round, despite previously stating that he did not want the job.

I’d MUCH rather see Jordan as Speaker than McCarthy.

But who am I?

************

One thing for sure, you would be a lot more important person to Jordan than with McCarthy who doesn’t have any interest in supporting the conservative agenda.

McCarthy just lost the THIRD ballot. (Voting is still going on as I type this, but Jordan has 5 votes so McCarthy can’t get a majority now.)

Shows how damaged Trump is by the midterm election results by the fact that he doesn’t have the influence anymore to get the man he wants to be Speaker, McCarthy, the votes he needs.

Jordan nominates McCarthy for Speaker and then all the 19 holdouts vote for Jordan. What kind of strategy is that? If they are trying to leverage their votes to get Committee Chairs and other prominent positions that’s fine. Just stop with the take no prisoners attitude and be smart for once.

I never used the term before in my life, but McTurtle and McCarthy and McDaniel are all in the mix, so I went with it.

The POS needs to remove himself.

************

He could step aside and lead an effort to find a compromise candidate and foster party unity, but he won’t. McCarthy is pure Swamp.

I wonder how many Republican votes Steny Hoyer would get if he was nominated. 12-15?

Guarantee an honest, open and immediate investigation into the fraudulent 2020 election and McCarthy might win.
It would put an immediate end to this national nightmare.
