The impasse between House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and a small faction of House Republicans continues, as the January vote for a new House speaker draws closer.
On Friday, the California congressman told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt that the five Republican lawmakers who oppose McCarthy becoming House speaker still are not budging from their stances.
"We're still continuing to talk, but they have not moved," said McCarthy.

"Why, I would've certainly caved by now. I don't understand what's going on. Republicans ALWAYS cave!"
We don’t want your pussy RINO ass McCarthy.
But it’s his turn. Eddie Munster promised him.
If not McCarthy then who?
This seems like a stalemate.
I’ve heard some others such as Jim Jordan simply aren’t interested in being Speaker.
The GOP has to be almost unanimous in the Speaker vote, as the margin of majority is only 5 votes.
“...five Republican lawmakers who oppose McCarthy becoming House speaker still are not budging...”
Only five?
Biggs hasn't thought that through. He has no name, no "okay, here's who we are going to nominate".
McCarthy will be speaker. Willing to take bets from FReepers, payable to FR as a donation on this.
“He [Biggs] has no name”
You mean Biggs is not registered in the uniparty
Need a name of someone to be Speaker if it is not McCarthy.
It’s never a stalemate. Politics abhors a vacuum. Other Republicans will apply for the job once it’s determined that McCarthy won’t be the Speaker.
Those five are holding out for under-the-table perks.
McCarthy cannot afford to seek support from Dems, as that would compromise him even worse.
Once he meets the demands of the holdouts, he will get their votes and get his speakership.
It’s politics.

The whole video is great, but it gets really good around the 2:45 mark.
Only five?
LOL Bingo!
All McCarthy has to do is allow the conservatives to HOLD HIM TO HIS WORD. Considering that he won’t permit that, it seems to be that the conservatives have him figured out.
“If not McCarthy then who?”
As long as it’s not EyePatch McCain, we’ll come out ahead.
Okay, okay…..I’ll settle this.
I’ll be Speaker….
McCarthy had his chance to be a strong spokesman for the RNC and along with McConnell wasted it.
I second the motion
Hear! Hear! ConservativeInPa nails it!
correct
they are doing what they were elected to do
fight for their priorities
