Kevin McCarthy has made perhaps his biggest concession so far to the band of conservatives standing in the way of his path to speaker. Yet it’s not clear if it will be enough to clinch his gavel.
In a lengthy conference call on Sunday, McCarthy and his team informed members that he would lower the barriers for rank-and-file members to attempt to depose a sitting speaker, a change that some GOP lawmakers have warned could weaken their leadership team. If adopted, the new rule would allow five members of the House majority to force a vote of no-confidence in their leader — a long-time demand of the party’s right flank.
The 55 pages of proposed rules are highly procedural, yet critical to the inner workings of the House. They would, for instance, govern how party leaders bring bills to the floor and how to ensure transparency around what those bills include. But the biggest focus for Republicans lately has been the so-called motion to vacate — the same tool that conservatives effectively used to topple former Speaker John Boehner in 2015. And it could be a serious threat to McCarthy as his conference takes power this week with one of the slimmest margins in House history.

“Leadership team” ... the guys that sell us out to Democrats and you cannot do anything about it.
And GOP warnings that this is a bad thing are full of it. It was always this way until Pelosi get rid of it. She wanted to run the house like she was queen. And McCarthy apparently wanted the same.
“Kevin McCarthy has made perhaps his biggest concession so far to the band of conservatives standing in the way of his path to speaker.”
Thank God for these patriots. I hope they prevail.
Concession I would demand is that 5 close family members be sequestered in a secret location as a guarantee of his good faith. Worked in medieval times, ought to work now.
The House GOP is already neutered thanks to them and the Senate RINOS passing that awful Omnibus bill. The media is shaming them for investigations and demanding they work with Democrats so they can get blamed when crap goes wrong.
Great job by the conservatives.
Exactly! There's no doubt that McCarthy is a RINO and we've had our fill of them with Ryan and Boehner. If there's to be any hope for America against the dems it relies upon having the slim republican majority not roll over and give them everything they want as they've done so often in the past. I DON'T want McCarthy as speaker but if he's the only option then there has to be some kind of cleaver held over his head to keep him from selling us out to the communists. Anything else would be suicide.
The one lesson that House Republicans never learn is that it takes only one of them to vote with Democrats for the LAAP-dog media to call it a "bipartisan bill."
In a Republican-controlled House, the two words we will never hear in the same sentence is "bipartisan bill."

It would be a shame if House Republicans fall for the "I promise to pass this rule tomorrow if you vote for me today" scam.
It would be a disgrace if it comes from our own side this time.

Do you really believe “Politico”?
S/B Politco
He has to surrender on ALL their demands. Screw him.
Unfortunately this "safety valve" only goes up to "10". We need a safety valve which goes up to "11".
>>I’m not feeling real good about calling myself a republican<<.
Time for a name-change?
“Save America” Party?
Every time I read this story. Arlan Spectors deal to become a Dem comes to mind. They promised that he’d keep certain positions etc.. Once he switched. Nothing. Which I loved seeing by the way.
The Traditional House rules were in place for 200 years until Vodka Pelosi
became Speaker. She changed the rules.
Why has Frank Luntz’s Butt Boy McCarthy waited so late to agree to
go back to Traditional Rules?
Because he wants to rule the House like Pelosi did.
No thanks.
How about that thing they injected into Snake Pliskin to keep him from going native in Escape From New York
