Mike Pence says he will not testify before Jan. 6 Committee: 'Congress has no right to my testimony

Former Vice President Mike Pence said that he would refuse to testify before the Jan. 6 Committee because Congress has "no right" to his testimony.

Pence made the comments in an interview with Margaret Brennan of CBS News, who asked him whether he would testify as many of his staffers have.

"I served for twelve years in the Congress, it's inconceivable to me that one party would appoint every member of a committee in Congress, that's antithetical to that whole idea of the committee system. That being said I never stood in the way of senior members of my team cooperating with the committee and testifying," Pence responded.

"But Congress has no right to my testimony," he added.

"We have a separation of powers under the Constitution of the United States and I believe it would establish a terrible precedent for the Congress to summon a vice president of the United States to speak about deliberations that took place at the White House," Pence said.

"So you're closing the door on that entirely?" Brennan asked.

"I'm closing the door on that," he said.

"But I must say again the partisan nature of the January 6 Committee has been a disappointment to me. It seemed to me in the beginning there was an opportunity to examine every aspect of what happened on January 6 and to do so more in the spirit of the 9-11 Commission, non-partisan, non-political," Pence added.

"And that was an opportunity lost," he concluded. Video showed that some of the rioters on Jan. 6 chanted, "Hang Mike Pence," and a confidential witness for the FBI said that rioters were seeking to kill Pence for not helping overturn the official results of the election.

The committee will likely be disbanded after the newest term of Congress begins since Republicans have narrowly seized control of the House of Representatives. In October, the committee voted unanimously to subpoena former President Donald Trump to have him testify about his possible role in the events of the rioting on January 6.

Here's the video of Pence's response:

You know, I think you’ve hit on something. He seemed very willing to cooperate, if asked, months ago and now it’s an emphatic, no. If McCarthy doesn’t mess things up, there will be a very different J6 committee in Hanuary, one more interested in the truth. Pence may not want truth exposed.

The line of reasoning is sound and Trump should refuse also. That said, a little voice in the back of my head tells me that maybe he doesn’t want to answer questions from any of the Republicans on the committee, IF there are any conservatives on it.

Pence was more actively involved in the setup, had more incriminating direct communications.

Very suspicious that the FBI didn’t go raid Pence’s house. In fact the media never even utters a bad word about him and NEVER DID THROUGH TRUMP’S 4 YEARS. Why not? Why was Pence ALWAYS exempt from media attack? They attack other people around Trump unmercifully but not Pence.

Tells me everything I need to know.

The tip off was early on when Pence told Trump that Gen. Flynn “lied” to him and recommended that Trump fire him. I always thought that Pence was working with the FBI/CIA.

NOW he pushes back. What a low life SOB gobsucker. I never liked him, never trusted him. IMO The ONLY reason he never goes out to dinner without his wife? She knows his tendencies.

Name one person who work for Trump, and wasn’t related to him, who stayed loyal to him. I can’t think of a single one.

Wow, loser Pence in a lose lose situation where he cannot even delight the debroomsticked Lizzie and tell the committee his truth. RINO!

But had we not taken the House you would testify while holding hands with Lizard. Pence is as phony as a three dollar bill and now he will be helping Trump avoid testifying whether he recognizes it likes it or not.
By the spring this scumbag will be a distant memory not a contender in primaries.

He just doesn’t want to reveal his part in it…i read some time ago that he was in communication with Nancy during the event.

(Anybody remember anything more about that? )

Pence is trying to cover up his role in all sorts of things, particularly this and the Covid scam.

Pence will be “compelled” tp testify under pena;ty of contempt, and so he will do his best to ruin President Trumps candidqacy. Pence is Mitch McConnels candidate.

Watch it happen.

Note that will not stop President Trump’s candidacy, it will make him more popular.

I do believe Mitch will collude with the Obama liberal fascist wet teams to assassinate President Trump. May Divine Providence protect him.\

A political war is about to be waged and good chance people will die.We MAGAS need to be serious and accurate about what we are facing now.

After reading the details of the whole Flynn charade I wondered if Pence was simply playing the role of the bad guy, and having the “Flynn lied to Pence” story put out there as the reason Flynn was fired — when he was really being fired for other reasons.

The fact that Pence thinks the 9/11 c0mission was “non partisan, non political” proves what a total asswipe he is.
