Two undersea pipelines crucial to delivering Russian natural gas to Germany were hit with mysterious leaks on Thursday, prompting concerns of sabotage.
Why it matters: The Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines have been central to the energy crisis that has enveloped Europe in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
While Nord Stream 2 hasn't entered commercial operation — its certification was halted on the eve of the invasion — Nord Stream 1 provided a crucial pathway for Russian gas to reach Europe until earlier this month, when Russia closed the pipeline citing maintenance concerns. The big picture: Two leaks were detected in the Nord Stream 1 pipeline and one in the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. While neither pipe was operating at the time the leaks were discovered, both were filled with gas, Reuters reported.
Nord Stream AG confirmed in a statement that "the Nord Stream 1 control center registered a pressure drop on both strings of the gas pipeline," adding that an investigation is underway. Sweden's Maritime Authority issued a warning for ships to maintain a five nautical mile distance from the sites of the leaks, which were registered near the Danish island of Bornholm.

Looking at the map, Odessa will now have to be taken by Russia - just in order to have a potentially-friendly way to route its gas to Europe. Otherwise, Ukraine and Poland have the capability to block gas flow to the rest of Europe.
This was an ABSOLUTELY IDIOTIC move by Biden’s people - and Europe may well flip sides over it.
On the good side - no more ‘Green Transition’ - not without natural gas to carry them through.
“ It’s classic Putinism: Make a big mess. Blame opponent(s) for it.”
Sounds every bit as much a classic American political establishment tactic. January 6. George Floyd. BLM. Antifa. Charlottesville.
Partially, yes, but with Russia not pumping oil to Europe, America is the next supplier in line. Like a good mafia don, Biden perhaps? knocked out the competition. Which European nations get American oil, and how much, depends on their "cooperation" in the Liberal World Order.
Biden decides nothing. The current US government is a junta with different centers of power making decisions and having to negotiate a consensus with the others.
Right now it looks to me as though DOD is running Ukraine policy, and State occasionally makes an appearance. The White House staff have some influence, but mainly do what they are told to do by the agencies.
Should Russia escalate dramatically, the Pentagon will simply implement whatever contingency plan is at the top of the pile. They will probably get around to informing the White House afterwards.
Yeah, a whole gaggle of them. It was hideous. Trump was addressing European energy needs and speaking against relying on Russian sources of energy.
Why would Putin give up his best bargaining chip?
The pipes aren’t going to used for a long time either way. Holes can be repaired, obviously. This bombing is just more terrorism from a terrorist nation.

Morale equivalence was the favorite refuge of the America hating left for decades. Is that where conservativism is now, too?
The United States did it...we are the extortionists.
Yeh...I'd say sabotage...and it's on Ukraine. No other country has a motive or would be willing to be caught.
Sparks sabotage fears? lol
Three explosions, three different locations. Uh huh.
>>If Biden starts shipping gas to Europe, we in USA will start suffering this winter as well.<<
Almost as if it were planned that way. I dunno, juss sayin.
I presume we’re talking about Dan Sullivan?

In 2018, US Senator John McCain informed its board of his intention to step down as chair of IRI after 25 years in the role and recommended for US Senator Dan Sullivan to succeed him.[6]

Scroll down to board members. Half are congress members. The IRI gets funding from USAID and the NED who in turn get funding from —— congress. I wonder if the congress/board members get paid for sitting on the board?
When it comes to morals, the United States government will first have to acquire some to have equivalence with ANYONE on the planet.
Thanks BobL. A very insightful comment!
“Holes can be repaired”
Yep, and it’s in an easy-to-reach location. But how about salt water damage over most, if not all, of the pipeline?
>>They stood there laughing. They’re not laughing anymore<<
That was a pretty funny video from the U.N. meeting when the cameras panned over to the German delegation snickering at Trump’s comments regarding Russian supplies of natural gas and the dangers of relying on them for energy.
I’d love to hear/see their happy lil faces now. Winter is coming fast.
⚔️⚔️⚔️“Seismologist: Two explosions thundered near Nord Stream”: Swedish media suggest that the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines suffered as a result of deliberate attacks. “The Swedish national seismic network recorded two separate explosions in the area of the gas pipeline accident on Monday. One of them had a magnitude of 2.3, similar to a noticeable earthquake, and was recorded at 30 monitoring stations in southern Sweden. Associate Professor of Seismology and Director of the Swedish National Seismic Network Bjorn Lund: “You can clearly see how the waves are reflected from the bottom to the surface. There is no doubt that it was an explosion.” ⚔️⚔️⚔️
Wonder what the depth there was?
My money is on US sabotage
