I read about that flight. Truly sad; well they all are.
I don’t believe that the video is from the actual aircraft—it’s a simulation to go with the ATC recording.
I think you are correct. Look at how the system ties to track after the plane hits the ground.
Yea, I don’t know what caused it, whether pilot over banked, or something failed causing it... but video from what I could see definitely appeared as though the plane was banked way too far... lost lift and fell like a stone.
Much like the fairchild accident.. of course in the fairchild accident it was without question Pilot intent... idiot decided he was going to try to show off and do a barrel roll... killing everyone on board. Air Force had plenty of warning about this pilots idiotic and risky behavior and let him keep flying anyway.
Will see what happens from the investigation with this crash, have absolutely no way to know what really happened at this point, but it sure appeared to me for whatever reason that plan was far too far banked.

“First you say it, then you do it” Bill Cosby.
I was flying into Chanute Air Force base at night in an F-102. The sky was clear of traffic and I was concerned about the amount of fuel. I called the tower for permission to come straight in, and it was granted. Now one of Chanute's runway parallels the Interstate highway. I throttled back, engaged spoilers, and descended to land between the blue lights. Well, crap, the blue lights went above my head and I saw headlights coming toward me! I pulled up the gear, and hit the throttle, climbing back out.
I called the tower and told them what happened. They said to parallel that by 400 feet and I'd be OK. I came around, offset the path, and descended once again. Woah!, The blue lights rose above my head again and this time I saw taillights trying to get off the road.
Again I called the tower, and asked him if his runway lights were really on. He said "Sure! Oh shit! How about now?". Now I could see real runway lights off to my right. I landed on that stretch of pavement, but ran out of fuel before I could taxi to the parking spot.
I asked him he how could mistake the lights along a highway for runway lights. He said under some weather conditions those mercury vapor lights look just like runway lights.
Bullets that don’t fit my rifle?
re: “I’m not knowledgeable enough to say, but looks like a really dumb move. Why would you drop out of IFR?”
Regs.
Go watch Dan Gryder “Probable Cause” on this before going all out “Dunning-Kruger” in public ...
Yeah, I have an AR, but no mag, facing off with a gang of thugs.
The weather was described as terrible. Best I can tell, this airport does not have an instrument landing system (ILS), only lights along side the runway that provide visual guidance for the correct landing glide slope.
I was an instrument rated private pilot in my past life long ago and would not have tried to make a landing at this airport in these weather conditions.
Not listening to it. RIP to all who perished, and condolences to their loved ones.
With a 500ft ceiling there’s no flight “Too short for IFR.” Maybe staying in pattern for a touch ‘n’ go in a 152, but it’d have to be someplace Podunk.
Detailed video debrief on the Lear crash.
More sketchy “journalism”...it was an air ambulance returning from a call (Lake Havasu City to John Wayne Intl.)(returning to their Gillespie Field home base) so 5 “seats” max. (2 pilots + 2 RN’s...stretcher unoccupied at the time).

I’ve had all three of those dreams.
Now I’m just waiting for the trifecta dream of showing up unprepared for the final exam naked and with no teeth :)
Ive never had any of those. I do have that other one that everyone has where Im standing on top of a pyramid in sun god robes and there are thousands of naked women throwing those little pickles at me.
