I don’t need this kind of stuff in my brain so I seldom click on it.

“Never fly on a private plane.”

Never ride in a private vehicle.

I can say dumb things, too.

Sad that. Lots of CVR’s have recorded final words/moments of crews that haven’t been published.

I always thought that seeing a plane crash would be one of the most horrific things to witness.

Especially from inside the plane.

The flight was from Orange County to San Diego. About a 15 minute flight. Would be VFR for entire flight. Too short for IFR.

Good explanation...thanks. The frustrating part...the pilot had a straight-in approach.

For some reason that even the Air Traffic Controller can’t understand, the pilot decided to do a VFR landing with a 500 foot ceiling.

500ft!!

Maybe in a Cessna 150 with a good pilot!

And there are those who learn from human error. Someone said those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

The main article has the Ring video captured from a house not far away, it doesn't have the audio, except the homeowner's shock at witnessing a plane crash.

Again it was only an 80 mile flight. Too short to file IFR. Wonder why the would take a Lear Jet for a 15 minute flight? Very expensive option with bad results.

I’m not a pilot so this might be a stupid question .If you are certified to fly a jet then that means you are at the top of the heap in terms of flight training. Why didn’t the pilot look at his altimeter so he knew where he was in relation to the ground.

How many FReepers have had dreams about being in a plane crash? I've had several.

Is it a common dream, like teeth falling out, being naked in public, or showing up at a Final exam without being to class all semester?

From the control tower, I watched a Navy A-5 Vigilante crash on the airfield. It lost its hydraulics, pilot declared an emergency and was doing a straight-in approach, touched down and began to ascend again...like a touch & go...but now completely out of control. Pilots punched out, the plane veered left, rolled over at about 200 feet AGL...and plopped down, canopy first...on open ground and burst into flames. A little further and it would’ve landed in a large mobile home park off the departure end of the runway (where I was renting). RE the pilots...both chutes deployed, one pilot landed fine, the other hurt his back. Thankfully, that was the extent of the human damage.

There are actually two pilots on a Lear 35. Maybe both lost situational awareness.

The video with the view from the cockpit is much better.

The last thing the pilot said was that he couldn’t hit the school.

Yeah. Marine Corps Aviation brat here. I heard that phrase several times in my childhood. One pilot stayed with the plane and fought it to a neutral empty field, he survived, but he ejected so late he lost both legs.

The pilot was a hero.

Every single one of them.
