Senate Passes $3.5 Trillion Partisan Budget Plan, Clearing Way for Sweeping Government Expansion

The Senate approved the framework of a $3.5 trillion budget plan in a key procedural vote on Wednesday morning, allowing the body to move towards a final vote on the issue.

Senators voted to advance the framework 50-49 along party lines, with Senator Mike Rounds (R., S.D.) absent. The vote came just before 4 a.m. following a “vote-a-rama,” during which senators introduced amendments for largely symbolic votes designed to test the level of Senate support for various issues.

The plan provides for universal pre-kindergarten, free two-year community college, tax incentives for clean-energy sources to fight climate change, and an expansion of Medicare to cover dental, vision, and hearing. Democrats hope to cover the cost of the plan in part with tax hikes on corporations and high-earning families.

“Senate Democrats have just took a massive step towards restoring the middle class of the 21st century,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) said after the vote. “What we’re doing here is not easy. Democrats have labored for months to reach this point….But I can say with absolute certainty that it will be worth doing.”

Republicans unanimously opposed the plan, saying the amount of government spending in the proposal during a time of rising inflation is reckless.

I say we double the deficit spending and prepare for the entire, fetid mess to collapse. There is no rehabilitation for the political pigs in DeeCee or the corruption they wallow in.

and they think Jan 6th was an insurrection and wonder why anyone could be so divisive or so blind to the clear and present danger they are to all of us, from the courts to the institutions of higher learning and corporations who they abuse freely and openly.

Tar and feathers is much too good for the lot of them.

They should remodel Alcatraz and make it a Dem re-education camp and then deport them to China along with FauXChi. Obviously , cost is no concern.

boy, aren’t we glad we boycotted away those 2 senate seats in GA?

Gotta love the child-like innocence of those who think there was ever a chance we were going to win those seats in the aftermath of the 2020 steal.

5 years ago McConnell wouldn’t help pass Trump’s $1 trillion infrastructure plan.

But now he celebrates a $3.5 trillion plan that is mostly not infrastructure but uses that word as a shield.

McConnell is the Swamp.

No, this is the other bill that the Dems are going to jam through Obamacare style. What’s funny the Dems are dunking on the GOP as they are running around trying to claim “bipartisan” victory on the fake infastructure bill. Didn’t even give them a day. Haha.

Actually, no. He was going to sign whatever spending bills Congress put in front of him. Ironically, it was the Republicans in Congress who turned out to be the most prudent during those years. The 2017 tax reform bill drove up revenues considerably, which meant growth in the Federal debt slowed even as spending grew a lot.

You still think that we are going to be voting our way out of this?

You would have thought we were dead country walking. Still here.

For now. Let's face it. As long as the dollar remains the world reserve currency, our "public servants" will continue to print money. Once it's not any more...Nellie, bar the door.

I agree with you. The good news for ME is that in my industry, these bloated spending bills will pretty much keep me employed for as long as I want to work — maybe even into my 90s if I am mentally and physically able.

We will be taxed into oblivion to pay for all this nonsense

Nah.

You will be taxed into oblivion because they hate you.

Whether you pay more tax or you don't is irrelevant. What taxpayers pay is a tiny fraction of the money they disburse by "printing" (most of which no longer involve paper and ink).

“If they had supported Trump and investigated the election fraud this would have never happened.”

The Republican state legislatures should have raised the issue of Joe’s dementia and called him in their state houses for a evening mental fitness determinations of Joe in sunset mode.

Finding Joe mentally unfit, they could have then appointed pro-Trump electors.

If Joe refused to show up, they could have passed a resolution listing instances of Joe’s mental debility and then appointed pro-Trump electors.

That’s true. I do worry about the debt but president trump thought it wasn’t a worry and spent as much as most presidents except W.

so uninformed. so afraid of the world.

it's sad to see people looking for delusional reasons to quit, so that the only function in their limited existence is posting angry stuff on an internet discussion forum.

I’m in a similar situation and luckily so are my kids. I wish everyone the best, but who didn’t see this coming? I got tired of trying to push Republicans into the center of the ring and telling them to fight years ago. In case anyone has any doubts, they’re in on this national takedown.
