2nd degree murder carries a 40 year sentence. A quick internet search shows that Minnesota does not have parole, but an offender has to serve 2/3 of his or her sentence, which can be adjusted upward or downward based on state sentencing guidelines. As Chauvin went inside this afternoon, he is looking at spending 9,741 days as a guest of the state of Minnesota, with a release date in December, 2047, and then supervised release for the rest of the 40 year term.
I can’t see this judge giving Chauvin any less than the maximum.

I think this is how things will shake out. In the long view, this is going to be very bad for many black communities.

Thank you. I heard one name surface earlier that I cannot remember, not sure if it’s the same person. I read that it was proven to be the wrong person, but I didn’t check. It could have been fake news outfits running cover for him.

I don’t believe there will ever be a mistrial. Waters knows what she’s doing. There’s been biographical info on jurors released. Judge refused to sequester them. Witnesses have been intimidated in their homes.

I think the entire pool was so corrupted that the defense had probably used up those slots in no time at all and other objections were not accepted.M

These jurors protected themselves as they know they would be targeted for anything other than guilty
May be wrong but somewhere I thought I saw the autopsy report stated caused of death was not asphyxiation and in another place that Chauvin had his knee on his back not his neck
If true Defense should have hammered those points home repeatedly
Chauvin set himself up by the duration of the hold and what looked like sneering at the crowd.

That’s what I learned working corrections, it’s rarely the initial crime that got them put away but a pattern of repeated stupid until it couldn’t be ignored.
