The Aunt Jemima brand of syrup and pancake mix will get a new name and image, Quaker Oats announced Wednesday, saying the company recognizes that "Aunt Jemima's origins are based on a racial stereotype."
The 130-year-old brand features a Black woman named Aunt Jemima, who was originally dressed as a minstrel character.
The picture has changed over time, and in recent years Quaker removed the mammy kerchief from the character to blunt growing criticism that the brand perpetuated a racist stereotype that dated to the days of slavery. But Quaker, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, said removing the image and name is part of an effort by the company to make progress toward racial equality.

We recognize Aunt Jemimas origins are based on a racial stereotype," Kristin Kroepfl, vice president and chief marketing officer of Quaker Foods North America, said in a press release. As we work to make progress toward racial equality through several initiatives, we also must take a hard look at our portfolio of brands and ensure they reflect our values and meet our consumers expectations."
Kroepfl said the company has worked to "update" the brand to be "appropriate and respectful" but it realized the changes were insufficient.

I kinda wondered when they would get around to this. It was rather obvious. It’s almost like they were waiting to use the Virtue Signal.
I volunteer my house as the collection point - if anyone has any of those offensive pictures of Andrew Jackson they can feel free to send them my way for recycling, that’s what we’ll call it.
Dont you just love the world now run by millennials!
Cowardly basterds!!!
Uncle Ben is doomed. Toucan Sam should be ok though!
(However, the ingredient list for that pancake mix should prove to be very interesting.)
I wonder when all this will end, and we can finally live our lives in peace.
This is so weird, I was just thinking about Aunt Jemima brand this morning and wondering what was going to happen to it with this current mania going on and bing! I boot up my computer and see this story. They are as predictable as trained dogs. Watch for that tarry stuff you put on your driveway to change from “blacktop” to something else. Anna Sewell’s classic book will be on the chop list at libraries, just watch for it. Stupid is in fashion, folks!
Pathetic!
I wonder when all this will end, and we can finally live our lives in peace.
_____________
It is not going to END. this is the normal until it gets even worse.

What they should really be embarassed about is the ingredients.
When I was a kid, back in the 60’s, the lady (model?) hired by the Aunt Jemima company to represent them came to our church to talk to our Sunday school class. She looked just like the lady on the box. She was a good Christian lady, warm and loving, I’ll never forget that visit. She was great.
None of this kind of stuff...Civil War, stereotypes, racism on rocket fuel, statue destruction and on and on...was ever even an issue over my lifetime. Until the advent of the Obama reign of terror and the ensuing stirring the pot for political purposes.
Or at least show the world who you really are and call it Ms. Karen.
that is probably safe. I think that is a picture of the founder
