Asphyxiation not the cause of George Floyd's death: Autopsy
The Washington Times ^ | Friday, May 29, 2020 | Valerie Richardson

George Floyd died Monday from a combination of preexisting health conditions exacerbated by being held down by Minneapolis officers, not from strangulation or asphyxiation, based on the medical examiner’s initial report.

Preliminary findings from a Tuesday autopsy conducted by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner found “no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxiation or strangulation,” according to the criminal complaint filed Friday against former officer Derek Michael Chauvin.

“Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease,” said the complaint from the Hennepin County Attorney. “The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.”

The Minneapolis police officer fired earlier this week was charged Friday with third-degree murder and manslaughter after kneeling on Mr. Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Video showed he was unresponsive for the last 2 minutes and 53 seconds.

“Police are trained that this type of restraint with a subject in a prone position is inherently dangerous,” the complaint said.

According to the filing, officers confronted Mr. Floyd after receiving a 911 call saying that he had paid for merchandise at Cup Foods with a phony $20 bill. They found him nearby in his vehicle with an adult male and female.

Mr. Floyd, who was six feet tall and weighed over 200 pounds, was handcuffed and led to the squad car, but resisted getting inside, saying he was claustrophobic.

While standing, he said repeatedly he couldn’t breathe. Mr. Floyd struggled as officers tried to force him into the car and fell to the ground. Two officers held him down while Officer Chauvin pressed his knee on the suspect’s neck.

Mr. Floyd said “I can’t breathe” multiple times, as well as

Oh, being held down with a knee on His neck “attributed” to his death.

But it’s always a Covid death just if you have the virus?
Wish they’d make up their minds.

But he wasn’t at no point in any video was he “out of control fighting the police.” At the time he was on the ground, he was already cuffed.

A. It’s a hypothetical.
B. There seems to be a huge amount of time unaccounted for in the videos and there must have been SOME reason the guy wouldn’t get in the car for ten minutes.

Either Involuntary or Voluntary Manslaughter will be the eventual Charge leveled at the Officer.

It wasn’t Murder, but that’s what the so called “Protestors” will demand.

It also wasn’t Racism, but we seem to have a new Code that says any Black or Semi Black Person killed by a Member of another Race is an automatic Hate Crime.

Not necessarily true.

Possibly. But he would not have died four days ago lying on the street if the officer was't kneeling on his neck.

He was being detained because he was engaging in criminal behavior.

He was detained because someone claimed he was trying to use a bad $20 bill, right?

funny...take a closer look and tell me, these were EMT’s on the scene

Did they even take him to the hospital? This gets screwier every day. Do city cops normally drive the ambulances?

There are some hard core folks on FR.

They see blacks being shot down in the streets and they justify it.

They see a black man constrained in a way that is inherently dangerous and inhuman, and they think the the black man was responsible.

No wonder they hate white people. I have to wonder where that absolute disregard for other people comes from.

I agree. Blacks aren’t always wrong, cops aren’t always right.

It’s hard to understand what the four fired cops were thinking at the time. Mr. Floyd was handcuffed, unarmed, on his belly, not dangerous and had not committed a violent crime. He said over and over again he couldn’t breathe, and the cops totally ignored what he was saying.

So would not breaking the law and not acting in some way that’s going to get you restrained.

So would not kneeling on the suspects neck for almost 10 minutes.

These trials are going to be interesting, but I think the cops are screwed. The mob wants convictions, and what jury wouldn’t give it to them?

There is no way you can get a jury who hasn’t heard about this thing, and they will convict just to avoid more riots.

And you’re one of them.

Just today, you wrote that black people are bad.

Which chapter are you the Grand Wizard of?

[Some people will excuse anything done by a cop.]

These are Democratic pols bearing down on the examiner. If they could, they’d personally put the needle in these cops’ arms the very next minute. Blacks are like kings in their worldview, infused with legal impunity and their sacred persons not to be violated without exemplary punishments, such as drawing and quartering or burning at the stake, being meted out. Since the punishments of centuries past are beyond their reach, they’ll settle for the needle or, failing that, letting these cops be torn limb from limb in some maximum security state prison.

Traumatic asphyxia, or Perthes’s syndrome, is a medical emergency caused by an intense compression of the thoracic cavity, causing venous back-flow from the right side of the heart into the veins of the neck and the brain.

Not the same thing as compression of the carotid by a knee on the neck.

This is sophistry under the most intense political pressure in order to keep the city from massive payouts, and to keep from ruining Amy Klobuchar’s VP chances.

By the way, does it normally take 9 minutes for an Ambulance to arrive in a major city?

Yeah...he was frog marched across 4 lanes of traffic to a waiting cop car where he falls down. And then is held there for 10 minutes by 3 cops and dies.

Have you seen this: Did they even take him to the hospital? This gets screwier every day. Do city cops normally drive the ambulances?

If a cop let every person who said “I can’t breath” loose then you’d have a lot of injured cops. Breaking news: criminals usually lie

Many of the knee jerkers here said he died because the cop choked him to death.

We know that is not true.

Do we? The report says that it contributed to the death. Without the restraint he would not have died there. He may have died a day later from a heart attack but the police would not have been responsible for that.

I’m guessing he was overdosing.

Whatever. The restraint was a contributing factor. You can speculate whether he would have died without the officer kneeling on his neck, but the fact is he died while the restraint was being applied. So the officer is responsible and has been charged.

The interpretation of the medical findings are clear.

Floyd's HEART ATTACK BEGAN BEFORE he was placed on the ground!!! He stated he could not breathe BEFORE Officer Chauvin placed him on the ground and gave him his knee!!!

Sorry FReepers, this is NOT a murder case. At best it's a negligence count of some sort but "MURDER", NO WAY.
