George Floyd died Monday from a combination of preexisting health conditions exacerbated by being held down by Minneapolis officers, not from strangulation or asphyxiation, based on the medical examiner’s initial report.
Preliminary findings from a Tuesday autopsy conducted by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner found “no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxiation or strangulation,” according to the criminal complaint filed Friday against former officer Derek Michael Chauvin.
“Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease,” said the complaint from the Hennepin County Attorney. “The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.”
The Minneapolis police officer fired earlier this week was charged Friday with third-degree murder and manslaughter after kneeling on Mr. Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Video showed he was unresponsive for the last 2 minutes and 53 seconds.
“Police are trained that this type of restraint with a subject in a prone position is inherently dangerous,” the complaint said.
According to the filing, officers confronted Mr. Floyd after receiving a 911 call saying that he had paid for merchandise at Cup Foods with a phony $20 bill. They found him nearby in his vehicle with an adult male and female.
Mr. Floyd, who was six feet tall and weighed over 200 pounds, was handcuffed and led to the squad car, but resisted getting inside, saying he was claustrophobic.
While standing, he said repeatedly he couldn’t breathe. Mr. Floyd struggled as officers tried to force him into the car and fell to the ground. Two officers held him down while Officer Chauvin pressed his knee on the suspect’s neck.

There are some hard core folks on FR.
They see blacks being shot down in the streets and they justify it.
They see a black man constrained in a way that is inherently dangerous and inhuman, and they think the the black man was responsible.
No wonder they hate white people. I have to wonder where that absolute disregard for other people comes from.
It’s hard to understand what the four fired cops were thinking at the time. Mr. Floyd was handcuffed, unarmed, on his belly, not dangerous and had not committed a violent crime. He said over and over again he couldn’t breathe, and the cops totally ignored what he was saying.

These trials are going to be interesting, but I think the cops are screwed. The mob wants convictions, and what jury wouldn’t give it to them?
There is no way you can get a jury who hasn’t heard about this thing, and they will convict just to avoid more riots.

Traumatic asphyxia, or Perthes’s syndrome, is a medical emergency caused by an intense compression of the thoracic cavity, causing venous back-flow from the right side of the heart into the veins of the neck and the brain.
Not the same thing as compression of the carotid by a knee on the neck.
This is sophistry under the most intense political pressure in order to keep the city from massive payouts, and to keep from ruining Amy Klobuchar’s VP chances.

Yeah...he was frog marched across 4 lanes of traffic to a waiting cop car where he falls down. And then is held there for 10 minutes by 3 cops and dies.

We know that is not true.
Do we? The report says that it contributed to the death. Without the restraint he would not have died there. He may have died a day later from a heart attack but the police would not have been responsible for that.

Whatever. The restraint was a contributing factor. You can speculate whether he would have died without the officer kneeling on his neck, but the fact is he died while the restraint was being applied. So the officer is responsible and has been charged.

Floyd's HEART ATTACK BEGAN BEFORE he was placed on the ground!!! He stated he could not breathe BEFORE Officer Chauvin placed him on the ground and gave him his knee!!!
Sorry FReepers, this is NOT a murder case. At best it's a negligence count of some sort but "MURDER", NO WAY.
