I heard this in passing on Rush's show and am not a 24/7 subscriber so I am unable to verify this through his app or website or even know if he sourced it from another website or publication.
I'm not trying to confirm what he said, only hoping to confirm the truth of what he said.

Here are the rules
Now show where what you posit is correct
Rule III page 866 ... oath adminsterd to senators then present
Rule XIII bottom of p868 .. on such adjournment the senate shall resume the consideration of its legislatinve and executive business
Precedents/practice re: Attendence on page 873 - a quorum is sufficient
Precedents/practice re: Commissions - not stated, but trial is held up until Commision returns
Precedents/practice re: Committees - ditto
Precedents/practice re: Legislative Business by UC
Precedents/practice re: Quorum - not mandatory for Senate to request or compel attendance
Precedents/practice re: Senators Excused from Trial Proceedings (technically, this resembles recusal. senators who have prejudged guilt might as well ask to be recused)
Precedents/practice re: Voting at Impeachment Trials - similar to being excused
Having them in the constitution is no protection either. Senate passed the Iran Nuc. Deal (looks like a treaty to me) by inverting the standard for passage to "it passes unless 2/3rds object."
This rule states that the Senate may convene an impeachment committee to review the evidence and hear witnesses, and report their findings back to the full Senate.
When it was first used in a judicial impeachment, it was challenged in the courts. SCOTUS ruled that the rule was Constitutional because the Senate has the power to make its own rules, and that includes the rules for impeachment trials.
Now, can you imagine McConnell letting the Senate exercise this rule for a Presidential impeachment and let the Senators delegate impeachment to a subcommittee while the rest go campaigning?

You’re welcome old partner. Take care.
We are still in media res with Trump. On the side of optimism is that the GOP rank and file is strongly with him, with country club Republicans and the GOP bedwetter caucus now out of favor. There is a chance that Republicans will in time follow success and adopt Trump-style populism and combativeness as its new style.
I can imagine doing practically anything. He doesn’t seem beholden to anyone.
the GOP bedwetter caucus

LOL! That’s a good one.
Once again your comments are spot one. I like the way you think. :)
Rules? What rules?
They make the rules as they go. Pfffft!
re: “Look, it’s all the same to me if you believe Limbaugh.”
“Believe”?
C’mon ... I think we’re beyond that ... or, is that the way _your_ mind works?
And we know how that ended for him :)
Utterly blinding hatred of your enemy (real or perceived) is RARELY a recipe for success in taking them down.
I’ve had both.
If he’s impeached and removed from office, he can then run for office 2 more times.
