Heard On Rush...Can Anyone Confirm?
The Rush Limbaugh Show ^ | 10-26-2019 | OrangeHoof

Posted on 10/26/2019 5:56:15 AM PDT by OrangeHoof

I heard this in passing on Rush's show and am not a 24/7 subscriber so I am unable to verify this through his app or website or even know if he sourced it from another website or publication.

I'm not trying to confirm what he said, only hoping to confirm the truth of what he said.

Nobody’s playing by the rules right now.

Ahab in “Moby Dick”

And we know how that ended for him :)

Utterly blinding hatred of your enemy (real or perceived) is RARELY a recipe for success in taking them down.

Thank you...Rush was relaying news from the Daily Caller who got it from Buzzfeed. That reduces my trust in the story.

I’d ask any Dem Senators potentially running against President Trump to recuse themselves from impeachment. Clearly there is a conflict of interest.

I really love this idea. If this gets to the Senate, somebody like Cruz should be yelling this.

But wow if it was it sounds like it would be a nasty one!!

It’s one of the few quotes from literature that I know.

Plus it was in “The Wrath of Khan” :)

I have to look up 95 percent of the history and quotes posted on this board.

They need 67 to convict, including 20 GOP votes. Them campaigning would be six votes short for an impeachment conviction. Remember, they need 2/3 of Senators PRESENT to convict. They would need 64 to convict, needing 23 GOP votes (2/3*(100-6)=64).

I think 20 GOP votes is attainable, but those last four might be a stretch.

Also Khan Noonian Singh in “Star Trek II”...with the same results.

I wouldn’t necessary call them ‘rules’. It’s standards that they developed. It’s like the handbook for baseball, and you handle the various possible ‘plays’.

There will be no other business during this period. Unless you are sick...that’s about the only way to avoid the sessions. Note as well...the head of the ‘jury’ is Justice Roberts in this period, and I seriously doubt that the Supremes conduct any real business while he is gone.

That’s why it historians normally say these last no more than two weeks. However, in this case....because the House is not doing much homework, I could see this going six to twelve weeks...well past the Xmas period. Or they may look at the interior work done by the House and say it doesn’t meet the standards, and dismiss the whole thing out-right. I think Pelosi is hoping that outcome.

I replied to someone and mentioned that in post 47! :)

Great minds and all :)

I’ve actually been in One relationship 20 or so years ago where there was so much HATRED by the end that we WRECKED each other emotionally and mentally in such devastating ways that there was no “winner”.

I’ve known other couples (we weren’t married) that have ended that way also.

NO GOOD comes from blinding hatred.

re: “What Rush said was BS.”

Maybe you need to read the Senate Rules for Impeachment document?

The longer a trial goes on, the more it takes those senators out of action in Iowa, New Hampshire and elsewhere providing a huge boost to Joe Biden’s chances (and a push from behind for Mare Pete).

HAR.

first time I’v Seen the tag “MARE pete.

Clever idea

That will stick!

Funny

Good job

Exactly the Democrats want to stop everything. No votes is better than bad votes.

Thank you. This PDF of the actual Senate Rules is what I was hoping for.

Two important notes from this:

1) I see nothing in the rules requiring Senators to be present during the trial or a ban on campaigning during the trial. Since the vote may be held at any moment, it’s a matter of logistics that the Senators may need to be in Washington to vote but there’s nothing that specifically prevents them from being elsewhere, only that if they were campaigning instead of sitting in trial, they may be asked to explain why they thought campaigning was a higher priority than casting a vote.

2) there was this:

“IV. When the President of the United States or the Vice President of the United States, upon whom the powers and duties of the Office of President shall have devolved, shall be impeached, the Chief Justice of the United States shall preside;”

so it would be Chief Justice Roberts that would preside at trial, not Mitch McConnell or any other senator.

Ah okay.

I have not read that. Excellent quote and fitting analogy.

Their hellbent destruction of Trump also makes them easily predictable, especially by Trump.

The House has made it clear that they follow no legal or traditional laws and procedures but make them up as they go along so long as they do not directly conflict with the Constitution.

So it will pass by whatever lie or means necessary, Rush to the contrary.

As for the Campaign, Biden is the favorite and like several others not affected by the rule. Biden will go on to challenge DJT in 2020 or Pence if DJT is deposed.
