WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday agreed to take up a major abortion case that could lead to new curbs on access to the procedure as it considers the legality of a Republican-backed Louisiana law that imposes restrictions on abortion doctors.

It will be interesting to see how Chief Justice Roberts rules. We already know what the other Justices think.

I believe this has to do with rules/law about abortionists having admitting privileges at hospital within a certain distance. But I could be mistaken. It may also have to do with inspections and licensing of abortion facilities.

I think this is why it's paramount that Trump gets another pick to replace one of Clinton's holdovers.

Roberts is a complete opportunist, devoid of principles. The only way you're going to be able control him is by replacing the current court with a 5-4 conservative majority.

He didn't scheme his entire life to be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court so he can pen a bunch of 4-5 minority dissents.

Difference in access from state to state is the Left’s nightmare.

The left prefers to rule by edict from one Federal judge.

When that fails they rule through persuading one legislative body.

The sluggards really detest the idea of working their hindparts off to persuade 50 legislative bodies.

If these justices had any sense, they would realize just Who they ultimately will answer to. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.(Proverbs 9:10)

Seems too soon? Would have been better after replacing a lib for a conservative.

In addition to Roberts, I don’t have total confidence in Kavanaugh. After all, Anthony Kennedy was a fan of the guy. II just have this nagging feeling that he might sell us out in order to prove to the liberal lynch mob that they were all wrong about him.

The killers are going to lose.

Nothing forcing them to stay where they are. There is a simple solution by the "killer companies".......

Move closer to a hospital.

They likely only rent anyways.

I get a perverse satisfaction out of imagining the look on people’s faces when the realization hits them to Who Exactly they must answer. The fear of the LORD IS the beginning of wisdom!

Conservative Chief Justice John Roberts joined the court’s four liberals in the majority when it blocked the law from going into effect.

Key sentence from the article. I think, at best, the court will do a very narrow ruling. I think the conservatives will be forced to compromise with Roberts in order to get him to join them.

We are going to have to wait for RBG's replacement, which means the confirmation process will make Bork and Clarence Thomas's hearings look pleasant.

It’s always been a ridiculous situation where these surgical centers are effectively exempt from regulations that apply to all other outpatient surgery centers... granted more “rights” than the greater universe of their kind.

“The law includes a requirement that doctors who perform abortions have a difficult-to-obtain arrangement called “admitting privileges” at a hospital within 30 miles (48 km) of the abortion clinic. “

“difficult to obtain”????

Only if the doctor is not really qualified to obtain them. Time consuming process? Yes. But, if the doctor is really qualified that - time - is major difficulty.

What admitting privileges mean for a doctor who performs abortions is that if something goes wrong during an abortion that cannot be handled best at the clinic level, the doctor has admitting privileges at a hospital that can handle the situation. There is nothing “bad” about that.

If the pro-abortion crowd was really about the “proper care of women seeking an abortion” they would not complain about the law. It is really for the protection of the women.

If it means an abortion clinic has to close, THAT means they were most likely operating without doctors with sufficient credentials to be granted admitting privileges at a hospital. In other words, operating with a lower standard of care.

Years ago, I was listening to a Christian radio station when the announcer mentioned the death of the leader of a well known cult. The announcer said something like “well, I’ve got a pretty good idea that he had a sudden change of mind regarding his heresy”
