President Trump is making a blunder with his vow to end birthright citizenship. Hed compound the error were he to try to snuff out this constitutional beacon with a mere executive order.
I say that not out of hostility to the president. On the contrary, I endorsed him (and voted for him) and agree with most of his major policies, including enforcing our immigration laws.
Yet its hard to see the logic of curbing legal citizens, which is what ending birthright citizenship would be doing. Our long-term economic problem could yet be lack of enough people.
Trumps vow to end birthright citizenship and to do so by executive order was made in an interview with the online publication Axios. It is due to be broadcast on Sunday.

the authors of the 14th amendment worked very carefully to protect against any such thing! there is NOTHING in the constitution that requires such automatic citizenship for “anchor babies” further, the language and history of the clause are crystal clear that citizenship for babies born in USA of foreign citizens or subjects.... are NOT NOT NOT included
these writers just keep repeating their ignorant, false assertions ..over and over again... instead of checking the law and history first

If you are a LEGAL immigrant and you have a child yes it is an American, If you are ILLEGAL you and your child are illegal!
Now where have I heard this before? If they keep repeating that well worn out refrain long enough they may just one day in the far distant future just might be right. But I kind of doubt it. Personally I thought it was a stroke of political chess playing genius on how to get the issue before the USSC in a fast tracking manner while at the same time rubbing it all in the face of Congress for their failure or refusal to do the job themselves.
I think that what PDJT is doing two things by bringing this issue to a boil.
He knows it will be challenged in the courts and is expecting that. He also knows it is a popular position.
The two things:
1. He is forcing an issue that needs to be clarified onto the front burner.
2. He is providing a litmus test issue for Republicans on the campaign trail.
This is both, in many people’s mind good for the country and good for Republicans in close races.

Seth Lipsky could be more wrong if he was intentionally trying to be wrong.
“All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”
“and subject to the jurisdiction thereof”
Makes one wonder, that if just anyone born inside the United States was a citizen automatically, why that phrase was inserted.
Or, why did it take 100 years for the real meaning to be ferreted out.
Similar to the “shall not be infringed” mystery phrase in the 2nd Amendment.
He is also now tossing it into the laps of where it should be decided: The do-nothing but preen Congress. FORCE them to do their damned jobs, for a change. Trump wins, yet again.
So sad this author does not know the difference between legal / illegal. So sad
