Alabama votes on Tuesday in a special election to fill the Senate seat vacated by Jeff Sessions, now the attorney general. The last polls close at 8 p.m. Eastern. Strong support for Roy S. Moore, the Republican, is expected in rural, mostly white parts of the state and in its northern half. The Democrat, Doug Jones, aims to create a lead in the urban counties that include Birmingham and Montgomery, and across a band of largely black counties.
One critical battleground is a trio of smaller, whiter cities: Mobile, Tuscaloosa and Huntsville. Mr. Moore won a hard race in 2012 by keeping things close there. Mr. Jones hopes to win the cities by a convincing margin.

Most of the votes counted so far are from Mobile and Montgomery counties.
In other words-rat infested cities.
Too early. less than 1 percent of precincts fully reporting.
That’s the AL SOS tally, so apparently NYT must be using something different than the real votes being turned in.
Makes me wonder if they are playing everybody.

Please slow down. It is not even 1% (hence the <1%). It is not even 1/2 of 1%.
It feels like 2016 again. Too soon to tell. I wouldn’t be shocked if Jones wins. I wouldn’t be shocked if Moore wins. If Moore loses, we’ll refer back to that Trump/Strange rally where he says Moore would have a hard time winning.
NY Slimes map. Almost nothing from GOP areas
Nate Silver: “Exit polls show Moore winning 56-37 among voters who decided in the last few days perhaps a sign of the GOP base coming home to him.”
What counts is the Ala SOS.
Not NYT
Where are they getting their results? Alabama SOS numbers don’t reflect this.
I think we ought to make it illegal to post results before the whole thing is done - especially in national elections.
SOS= Secretary of State?
Where do you see those?
Thanks jennychase for bringing a little sanity to the thread.
“Driving into Alabama on the freeways, all of the welcome signs already have it on them.”

That’s pretty cool, thanks.
also per CNN exit polls: 70% of whites for Moore and 95% of blacks for Jones. 71% of electorate is white, so roughly a 49% total vote for Moore, & total of 21.5% white + 28.5% black for Jones, assuming turn out is proportional to registered percentages, which is a BIG assumption.
so all depends on turnout ...
That was a long night—with plenty of Freepers panicking for hours and hours—I get exhausted just remembering it.
I don't understand how Hannity can stand to work around such people.
Yes, but it makes me wonder where NYT is pulling these numbers out of.
Then let’s start putting the Alabama SOS figures out here.
Got a link?
early results are mainly city/Black. No need to panic.
