Recommendation? Need a Really Comfortable Travel Car, Think Sofa, With Wheels.
Recent car history Mazda MPV 1998 back when it was a great vehicle Xterra Golf TDi Jeep Sahara Unlimited
Now I need a travelin' car. I would keep the Jeep but it is too noisy.
Stopped in at a Volvo dealership and tried a s60, too stiff a ride for long trips and not comfortable seats.
Any recommendations for a really comfortable car? Just for me and perhaps one other passenger and our luggage?
I am thinking of a 2015 or 2016. All wheel drive would be nice. A little retro would be fine too.
Any ideas?

I drove a Ford Taurus for the last 5 or 6 years. It was very comfortable and dependable. I drive a lot for work and never suffered because of it. Was able to drive from Daytona to VA Beach several times straight through. I usually stopped about half way for the night but the car was comfortable enough that I was able to drive through without back or hip pain.
Best car I ever had was a 2000 Buick Park Avenue...FWD, 23-24 mpg highway (loved going over 70).
Ran it for over a decade until the tranny blew at around 250,000K
I don’t know if they make them anymore, but I once rented a Buick LeSabre and it felt like it could drive me where I needed to go with me sleeping in it. LOL.
Back when I was a travelling man I travelled on a number of different vehicles, none of which had more than two wheels. I have had a car for a few year but If I want to run down to Gainesville or up to Atlanta go on my Suzuki Boulevard.
Pickup one of these with 100-150K the suspension is broken in just right for a very comfortable ride. Mine has 172K and great on the highway or the potholed roads of Chicago
I was thinking of something a tad smaller than an aircraft carrier.
That boat of a Continental that Cannon drove was plenty big.
The folks had a 74 LTD. Great car.
Rented one and it felt like I was back in the land yacht Lincoln that we bought our kids as their first car. Massive but you were driving on a cloud. We also knew that they would walk away from almost any accident.
Since they had to buy (most of) the gas, they have all opted for smaller cars as adults.
2011 was the last model year..................
You can always pick up a very low mile Mercury Gran Marquis for a few thousand bucks. They are the essentially the same chassis as the Lincoln with less trim, but a step above the Crown Vic.
Mechanics and parts are plentiful as they are a version of the Crown Vic fleet car used by many police departments and taxi companies.
They are all REAR wheel drive, not good on slippery roads.
They tend to need valve seals at about 160k. After that fix you can run them up to 300k.
I got about 20 MPG on my Gran Marquis, don’t have it any more.
Good luck with your search.
as soon as you provide the chauffer, and the payments. lol
I knew you were going to ask me which model - lol. It was white with black interior ;) and was a midsize rental with a large trunk. Judging by the internet pictures I would guess it was a Mazda 6. This was a couple of years ago.
I’ll second the Ford Flex, but it has been discontinued, IIRC. It does provide a nice ride. But if your front seat passenger has big feet, beware. Mine were a tight fit when we gave one a test drive.
Honestly, you cannot beat a Cadillac for comfort and quiet.
Not even a Lincoln, Mercedes or BMW.
Just bought a 2017 Hyundai Sants Fe, about 28K, V6, loads of features, comfy seats and plenty of room.
The newest model of Mercury Marquis or Lincoln Town Car up to 2011 you can get. I prefer the Merc, much less fussy.
Comfortable as your living room, CHECK
Great fuel economy, CHECK
Excellent crash safety, CHECK
High sustained cruising speed, CHECK
Impressive acceleration, CHECK
Trunk big enough for several bodies, CHECK
Reliable system refined over many years, CHECK
Outstanding value, CHECK
Only problem is the Electronic Automatic Climate Control and Blend Door control.
Other than that one of the very best cars I ever owned. Wish they still made them.
