The 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season is heating up. Two tropical systems are taking aim at the United States. Tropical Depression Eight (Hermine) is expected to brush the Outer Banks of NC. Tropical Depression Nine (Ian) is in the Gulf of Mexico, anticipated to affect the Florida coast.

Hi, Nautinurse. It’s been a long time.... So far, the rain is off and on. So glad I don’t live in a flood zone.
I hope he’s wrong.
I'm on the top floor of a condo directly overlooking the broad main channel that leads to the Gulf which is 5 minutes away.
Non-stop rain....an hour ago the water rose OVER the seawall below me....then the tide started going out, still going out....the water is now a few inches BELOW the top of the sea wall.
I'm high and dry, but when the tide comes in I fear those on the first floor will be flooded. They got flooded in the No-Name storm about a decade or more ago.
I knocked on the first-floor doors a few minutes ago (3 out of 6 were home, the other 3 are snowbirds and are up north, oh, dear) and I told them to bring anything they fear they will lose up to my place for safe storage if worst comes to worst.
The "worst" is supposed to start around 1 or 2 AM....water, not all that much wind (reportedly). But, now, looking out the window, the wind is picking up considerably, all the tall palm trees are swaying vigorously....and it is POURING!
A subdivision across the channel already powerless. Hope we don't lose power here in my building....no TV, no Freep...ay, caramba!
Later, 'gators,
Leni/MinuteGal
Hang in there Leni! We’ve gotten a lot of rain, but little wind. Of course, we live in the Highlands, (inland) which is 135 ft. above sea level.
Thanks for checking in with your local Hermine report! Very neighborly of you to check on your sea level condo mates. I’m sure they appreciated your thoughtfulness. Please keep us updated when you can!
LTNS—glad to know you are staying dry during the storm. Please provide local updates when you can.
Just remember friend, if power is off long, come to my house as I will still have power. Along with hot water, and stove to cook! :)
Hi Friend, I happen to live in Whisper Highlands Neighborhood in Largo. No flood insurance needed here either, and just 10 minutes from the Gulf. :)
Please be careful and keep we east coasters up to date on your conditions!
Lots of rain and downed branches etc. here. Pools have reached almost the top. The storm is going to cross Florida north of the SPACE COAST. McMuffin north of me and Guenevere nearby.
Bread-Eggs-MilkIt's the French toast storm prep......
oooohhh and do not forget the TP!
Don't laugh, boyz. Give 'dem hemmi's a break! The French got something right!
I'm fairly sure we're just gonna get some rain tomorrow and mebbe a l'il wind.
My theory is that NHC reported windspeed minus 10 m.p.h. = actual windspeed. That relationship seems to hold here. It's disappointing that it looks like the hurricane drought will fall to a pseudo-hurricane. My preference would be for the NHC to report accurate windspeeds.
TROPICAL STORM HERMINE IS ALL AROUND ME
(...sung to the tune of "Begin the Beguine").....
I'm in the begin of the Hermine
I'm hearing the sound of wind in a blender
Down here in the land of tropical splendor
It's enough to make me turn green
It's blowing hard here under the stars
The folks in low spots are frantically praying
And all of our palms are swingin' and swayin'
As we begin the Hermine
Oh, yes, let us begin the Hermine, let it blow
Then let the clouds disperse and my power returns with a comforting glow
And I whisper once more, "Florida, I love you"
And I suddenly know what heaven I'm in
When it's the last I have seen
Of Hurricane Hermine

Florida
Agreed, and the NHC forecast seems like it’s favoring the same solution: possible big storm hanging near Cape Cod early next week.
Best, I.T.
Stay safe Florida !
You’re in our hearts and prayers !
Double-best, Leni
Prayers up, for our dear FL FRiends!
Hiya IT! LTNS!
