I’m a millennial and my generation sucks
NY Post ^ | 7/4/16 | Johnny Oleksinski

....At 26, I’m stuck in the middle of the world’s most maligned, mocked and discussed age group. And I hate it. Imagine being forever lumped into a smug pack of narcissists who don’t just ignore the past, but openly abhor anyone and everything that came before them.

.... Bernie Sanders obsessives who preached reform and inclusion by berating their closest friends and family for daring to think differently....

...My millennial friends want me to be hopelessly nostalgic for the ’90s, obsessing over which “Saved by the Bell” character I’m most like...

...Perhaps their messiah complex is a result of being coddled, petted and worshiped like toy poodles from infancy all the way to college...

....but we can turn it around, millennials. Here’s how. Action item one: Stop blaming everybody. Don’t blame the big banks, don’t blame your mom...By absolving ourselves of responsibility, we’ve become forever 8-year-olds, tattling on the world in hopes it will better our situation. It won’t. It will only make it crummier.

...Action item two: Stop being so insular...you’ve curated your social media accounts — where most of your interaction takes place — to be in total agreement with your opinions.

...Action item three: Stop waiting around for something big to happen. Getting a job is hard. Filling out a million online forms isn’t enough. Primping your LinkedIn and hoping your God-given greatness will finally be recognized by everybody else like your grandma always said it would will get you zip, zilch, zero. You need to leave your apartment, meet people, be assertive, interested, open. I’ve gotten full-time jobs by sitting at bars and dancing at wedding receptions.

Not all of your generation, kid.

Some of your generation was in Afghanistan and Iraq, instead of being indoctrinated by psychotic liberals.

They got real-world schooling.

There’s hope.

I like some of the article, but he doesn’t seem to state that Obama has been horrible for the economy.

There’s nothing wrong with talking about what’s wrong, if we don’t stop there and act all superior for simply having said it. This tune doesn’t get sung just among the millennials. It is common on FR.

The bible has good advice. First of all to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved, but after that we may ask the Lord for wisdom which will be given “without reproach.” God isn’t into a lot of blaming today (the devil does just fine there), but into setting things right through His love, inasmuch as we will accept it. It takes a whole life to learn to accept it.

I wish people would stop bashing Millenials.

Pound for pound they are as worthless, or worthwhile, as the Boomers, Xs, or Ys.

What they have going for them is frugality, patience, and humility.

In spite of being really angry with the preceding generations for accumulating insurmountable debt and squandering the wealth of the middle class, they seem to still be positively engaged in society, not dropping out like the Boomers did.

Trump should make a BIG play for them in several speeches.... They are ripe for the picking.

Instead of bashing the Millenials bash the people who raised them and elected Obama: the Boomers and Xs.

Not true, I’m a Gen Xer with two girls 13 and 10 and can assure you the way they are being raised is to work for every thing and the includes everything outside the essentials I buy them. Want that game? Ok 4 weekends of chores etc etc.

Either WWIIp>I or the coming Civil War will dissuade them of any illusions of entitlement...and it will give them something to do! ;)

I love my 20 year-old son dearly, but the summer is quickly passing by and all he does is eat our food and play video games, while we have to pay rent on the apartment he will live in during college next year (weird, I know, but they sign a one-year lease and we had to start paying rent after the tuition and room and board were done for this year).

I have always been very generous with him, and with my daughter. But honestly, when his age, I'd already waitressed and worked in a factory. And when my husband and I first got together, we made up pamphlets and put them in people's mailboxes, advertising that we were available to paint, clean houses, cut the grass, whatever.

If you try, you can find work. He doesn't.

However, I am very happy to report that our 17 year-old daughter has already found one job (within one week of graduating!) and has another place that wants to hire her, but the logistics are difficult.

Holy crepe! A millenial with self-knowledge.

There’s now some glimmer of hope for the beheadable millenials if a clear thinker such as this fine young lad can emerge from such a dreaded group.

All hail maturity!

Why not just adopt the uniform of the enemy...

In a great many ways. In fact, I'd not be surprised to learn of deals with the big companies to elevate the worker-visa numbers (and frauds)… think about it: if you make it difficult for someone to work at a decent wage by importing foreigners who "can" do the same job, cheaper and with the threat of losing their sponsorship, which then lowers the average wage for that job.

(Like the reverse of outsourcing the customer service phone jobs to India — imagine importing doctors or programmers who will work cheaper from a foreign country in order to drown the market and put people currently in these traditionally higher-paying/respected jobs out of work. [Building contractors using illegal aliens in CA/NV/AZ/NM/TX, for example.])

What is really sad is that your generation is going to have to deal with Generation Snowflake coming along behind you. Good luck with that.

“My generation, the ‘Baby Boom’ sucks big time!”

I love how everyone likes to bust the millennials chops like they’re the worst. What about the so called “Greatest Generation” that gave us our first executive socialist dictator: FDR. What about the baby boomers that voted for socialism at every turn, only to suddenly find God in the 80s and decided they didn’t want anyone else to have socialism except for them.

Parents are and were the problem. Either their BS being stuffed in their kids heads or their absence. Well over two-thirds of the the millennials I know had either a single parent or were living with a second Mom or Dad after their actual parents split up.

Screwed up generation of kids? That starts with screwed up parents who leave their kids adrift and at the mercy of government schools which are nothing but a big indoctrination machine no longer answerable to parents even if the parents care.
